Title: Internal Auditor Unit: Evaluation and Quality Improvement Reports to: Director of Data Integrity and Compliance Salary Range: $60,000 - $65,000 Status: Full Time; Regular; Exempt Location: Long Island City Date Prepared: October 4, 2023 Position Summary: Reporting to the Director of Data Integrity and Compliance, the Internal Auditor will fulfill the program audit and quality assurance agenda of the Fortune Society. S/he will work closely with program leaders to facilitate the development of effective systems of risk management and internal control that ensure program objectives are met. S/he partners with the various units and EQI Program Analysts to ensure that recommendations based on audit findings are promptly addressed. Core Competencies: The Internal Auditor shall possess the following core competencies, which are critical to the fulfillment of the requirements for the position: Mission/Culture The Internal Auditor must embody the values and mission of the Fortune Society. Collaboration The Internal Auditor should be comfortable collaborating with staff at all levels (senior staff and peers), within the EQI department, and all departments of the organization in understanding the root causes of problems. The Internal auditor will be asked for input on department projects, so they should be comfortable contributing constructive feedback and be a team player in supporting the EQI team. The Internal Auditor should be comfortable leading group conversations and facilitating meetings. The Internal Auditor should be in command of critical issues and be able to prioritize effectively as new projects come up and communicate project progress with assigned programs. Organizational and Time Management Skills The Internal Auditor must be a highly organized and effective documentarian. This individual should be in command of critical issues and be able to prioritize effectively as new projects arise. They should be able to handle multiple tasks and deadlines. Analysis The Internal Auditor must have strong analytical and data management skills to identify the root causes of compliance issues. Additionally, the Internal Auditor must be able to inform and advise leadership on compliance issues found. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Lead internal agency-wide audits of programs, including chart reviews, reviewing documentation, and monitoring programs for fidelity to the model. Share findings from observations and audits with program staff, including working with Program Directors and EQI Program Analysts to assess the adequacy of plans for corrective action, offering insights and guidance. Develop tools allowing programs to conduct day-to-day quality assurance and ensure compliance with program/unit objectives. Assist programs in preparation for announced (and anticipated) funder or regulatory agency site visits and audits, as well as providing support on the day of the audit. Maintain a summary of all audits/reviews conducted, findings, recommendations, and implementation of corrective actions. Partner with EQI Program Analysts to develop a Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program to implement best practices, create standardized forms, draft policies and procedures, and ensure contractual compliance. Coordinate with EQI Program Analysts and Program Directors to ensure integrity and accuracy of Agency data collection, transmission, and reporting for internal or external databases. Conduct special reviews as requested by Agency management. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree, preferably in public administration, public health, human services, criminal justice, sociology, or the equivalent combination of education and experience; At least 2 years of related work experience in either a clinical, non-profit or government setting; Ability to understand and analyze all relevant statutes, regulations, contracts, and supervising agency policies; Proven organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and fast-paced, deadline-oriented projects; Strong project management skills with impeccable attention to detail and ability to influence without authority; Computer proficiency in programs such as MS Office. Proficiency in databases preferred. Possess a strong sense of urgency with the ability to drive projects to completion while working independently or as part of a larger team; A self-starter who possesses the demonstrated ability to be proactive and take the initiative; A team player who is open to feedback and possesses a desire to learn and grow; Excellent verbal and written communication skills and experience working closely with staff at all levels; Ability to recognize the importance of practical solutions as well as the efficient and effective use of resources; Meticulous attention to detail with the ability to see the larger picture as well; Prior experience working in audit, quality assurance, or compliance a plus; and Experience working with the formerly incarcerated population or persons of a diverse background is a plus. A sense of humor.
