SummaryThe Director of Development, School of Science and Engineering is a professional fund-raising position reporting to the Senior Director of Major Gifts. The position will be responsible for identifying,cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a targeted portfolio of priority prospects, with a focus on securing commitments in the range of $100,000 and above, in concert with the Schools strategic priorities and objectives and the undergraduate priorities overall. The Director of Development will coordinate overall school-based giving and major gift activities at the School of Science and Engineering, including managing the Deans development activities and all fundraising matters related to the School. The position will work closely with other departments within Advancement including Major Gifts, Reunion and Annual Giving, Gift Planning, Stewardship, Corporate, Foundation, and Research Relations, and Advancement Information Services, as well as Alumni Relations, Advancement Communications and Marketing, and other departments throughout the university.Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesExcellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to write and speak in a clear, sincere, and compelling manner, and to articulate and represent the mission and vision of Tulane UniversityExperience in prospect identification, relationship building, and solicitation, preferably in higher educationExperience in asking for large gifts and/or staffing volunteers to ask for large giftsAbility to travel substantially (50%), as well as attend events on evenings and weekendsExcellent organization skills, including the ability to manage multiple activities, demands, and/or projects simultaneously, while maintaining a high degree of effectiveness, a spirit of collaboration, and a sense of humorDemonstrated initiative and self-starting capacityAbility and professional style to work with university leadership, trustees, volunteers, and top donors in an effective and sophisticated mannerExperience working with sensitive information and ability to maintain strict confidentialityRequired Education and/or ExperienceBachelors Degree from an accredited university or college and 5 years of direct fund-raising or related transferable experience in the solicitation and closing of major gifts. Transferable or related experience may include marketing, admissions, public relations, alumni relations, trust officer, or sales ORA high school diploma or equivalent, and 11 years direct experiencePreferred QualificationsFundraising experience in a research university environmentCommitment to the values of an institution of higher educationKnowledge of various software systems, such as Word, Excel, and a prospect management databaseExperience managing volunteers or coordinating a volunteer committeeCompensation InformationTulane offers a variety of options to enhance your health and well-being so that you may enjoy more out of life now and in the future.
