Job Purpose The Director of Commercial Finance, Americas will support the Head of Finance, Americas in understanding and shaping the financial performance of the region. Specific areas of focus for this role include BBC joint ventures, branded services channels, World News distribution and cost analyses. Working alongside key decision makers, providing informed insight and challenge to business decisions thereby influencing and shaping financial plans, future direction and choices through the provision of high-quality financial analysis and business acumen. Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities Business Partnering and Relationships: Deliver effective financial management, control and advisory support to optimize business performance. Help to solve high profile business problems and progress transformational projects. Work closely with and influence senior management to drive business performance by providing objective advice, insight and challenge, effectively acting as a catalyst for change. Promote and share finance best practices across the region and the Group. Participate in the development of the overall BBC Studios financial strategy to ensure long-term financial position is accurately modelled and forecast. Ensure effective governance, risk management and internal compliance processes and controls are in place, taking into account local laws, for example Canada & Mexico. Develop and maintain excellent relationships with all relevant stakeholders including external partners such as AMC, Britbox and Blue Ant. Analyze and track forecasting and reporting of Global Distribution costs. Facilitate self-development by identifying and meeting own skill development needs. Support and develop a best-in-class finance function including indirect reports. Facilitate a collaborative working environment by sharing information and collaboration on decision making across the Americas region, Global Distribution and Group Finance. Provide initial advice regarding accounting treatments under IFRS and liaise with the Group Finance team if further guidance is required. Budget & Forecasting: Review and challenge branded services forecasts, providing financial advice on a range of issues. Challenge actual or potential variations to budgets. Ensure that financial activities are managed in accordance with the business strategy ensuring value for money. Drive business area decision making, strategy and performance using appropriate financial analysis and guidance. Provide input, carry out business reviews and develop strategies for business area and divisional budgeting, forecasting and Long Term Plans. Work with Group and Central Finance functions to ensure compliance with accounting treatment, internal policies and consistent reporting. Business Performance and Review: Evaluate and appraise large and complex investments, capital expenditures and financing projects. Build business models for bespoke or unique business requests. Co-author required governance papers for approval Boards at Regional and Group level. Provide unique insight and strategic advice to regional and business area leadership, by increasing their knowledge of operational issues to maximize sales and profit Attend and represent BBC Studios Americas finance interests at external meetings. Review Board Papers for external business interests such as Britbox, BBC America and other potential ventures. Attend the monthly business review meetings and provide feedback/insight. Attend divisional team meetings and business updates/leadership meetings Assist in the preparation of Quarterly Performance Review (QPR) and other presentations. Present on financial results, business cases and other matters to various audiences as required. Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience 8+ years of professional experience Strong accounting and finance background with a recognized accounting qualification (CPA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) Experience of working in media sector; as part of an overseas subsidiary or being part of a group company environment would be an advantage. Knowledge of SAP (S4 Hana), BPC, Analysis for Office Able to develop and manage relatively complex Excel models and analyses; effective in Word and PowerPoint Strong working knowledge of IFRS Strong technical and organizational ability paired with a commitment to being a team-player who can operate with intelligence and tact Able to build and maintain strong relationships and strategic partnerships across the BBC and with external stakeholders Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to influence, persuade and shape optimal decision-making; demonstrates resolve, calmness and poise as necessary Able to act objectively and understand, analyze and simplify complex problems and processes, and construct frameworks for problem solving Shows initiative and originates action; ability to work under pressure and deliver a quality product within agreed timeframes; reliable, proactive, imaginative, responsible Adaptable, commercial, creative, high energy Ability to maintain a positive attitude and juggle tasks while supporting numerous stakeholders Compensation The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $110,000 to $155,000 with a 15% company bonus. This range does not include bonus compensation or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary offered depends on the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and geographic location of the position.
