The EHS manager provides leadership and guidance to all employees to improve safety, health, and environmental metrics to a world-class level. He / She develops and implements programs that comply with federal, state, and local EHS regulations and works closely with Facilities, Operations, Quality, and the Corporate EHS group. The manager oversees environmental safety permits for construction and general industry, wastewater management, industrial hygiene, and biosafety in a plant under good manufacturing practices (GMP).Every effort has been made to make your job description as complete as possible. The omission of specific duties/responsibilities does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or is a logical assignment to the position.Drive the site safety culture by partnering with all teams and departments to ensure everyone is accountable for the implementation and advancement of safety regulations.Provide EH&S guidance and compliance support to site management to ensure compliance with regulatory and company requirements.Drive initiatives to shift the safety culture towards a more preventive and employee-driven approach. Analyze and comprehend plant operations to determine their impact on employee safety, health, and the environment. Collaborate with managers, supervisors, and employees to develop and adhere to EHS policies and procedures.Provide approval of Biological Assessment of Risk (BAR) for new construction, materials, or processes. Conduct job hazard analysis and/or exposure assessments to identify occupational health hazards, including but not limited to hazardous chemicals and physical agents.Perform incident response and management, including incident investigation, root cause analysis, development and implementation of corrective action plans, related documentation, and communication.Evaluate facility EH&S conditions, assess risks, and develop appropriate corrective-action plans to address deficiencies in regulations, industry standards, or company safety policy.Interact with external regulatory agencies and act as the sites representative during inspections and audits.Assist with risk management and assurance inspections and oversee all necessary corrections.Collaborate with Occupational Health Services and maintain the required OSAH logs and reports. Maintains EPA records of hazardous waste, air emission permits, water pollution discharge, and industrial health monitoring, as well as records of employee hazard exposure according to OSHA regulations.Create and implement occupational health and safety (OHS) programs to prevent workplace injuries, illnesses, environmental contamination, and property damage.Manage relationships and contracts with vendors and consultants who support EH&S programs.Regularly perform safety walk-throughs to proactively identify and correct potential safety issues.Support Tier meetings infrastructure across the site representing EHS and business needs. Provide EHS overview and training during weekly new hire orientation Contributes to Global EHS programs and collaborations across sites.BS degree in Occupational Health & Safety or Environmental Sciences or related technical discipline.CSP, CIH, OSHT, NEBOSH Certification preferred.Min 10 years' experience in Environmental, Health, and Safety Must have the skill and ability to conduct and/or support sensitive investigations involving company personnel, assets, and/or proprietary information.Strong working knowledge of EHS regulations and requirements (EPA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and ability to demonstrate effective interaction with regulatory agencies. Experience in manufacturing, biopharma or pharmaceutical industry preferred.Knowledgeable in the technical fundamentals of safety management and risk assessments and reduction, including machinery safety, ergonomics, and occupational health.Leadership, project management, and interpersonal skills. Excellent written and oral communication skillsExcellent problem solving, planning, and organizational skills.Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment while managing multiple assignments with strict deadlines.Skilled at using Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)Note: This position may require the labeling, packaging, or movement of hazardous (flammable, corrosive, toxic, etc.) waste within the facility. If so, this employee would be trained. In lieu of HAZWOPER training, the employee will receive training on the requirements of the New York State hazardous waste management regulations pursuant to 6 NYCRR §373-3.2. All employees that have received the above-mentioned training upon hire will receive annual refresher training that covers the OSHA HAZWOPER standard and the personnel training requirements of the NYSDEC.Work is primarily light in nature, with exerting up to 50lbs of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Use of fingers to type and / or enter numbers on keyboards, keypads, etc. along with grabbing object(s). Additionally includes, reaching, handling, talking, hearing, bending, stooping, and walking. Involves sitting, standing, and walking most of the time.
