Overview We are currently seeking a skilled Ship Crane Operator to join our maritime operations team. As a Ship Crane Operator, you will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating cranes on ships, docks, or offshore platforms to load and unload cargo, equipment, and supplies. Your precision, adherence to safety standards, and ability to work effectively in a dynamic marine environment are essential for ensuring smooth and efficient operations. Responsibilities Operate Ship Cranes: Safely operate various types of ship cranes (such as gantry cranes, container cranes, or mobile harbor cranes) to load and unload cargo from ships or between ships and docks. Cargo Handling: Handle a variety of cargo types, including containers, bulk materials, equipment, and supplies, ensuring proper placement and distribution according to load plans and instructions. Safety Protocols: Adhere strictly to safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of personnel, cargo, and equipment. Equipment Inspection and Maintenance: Conduct pre-operational inspections of cranes and related equipment to ensure they are in good working condition. Report any maintenance or repair needs promptly. Communication and Coordination: Communicate effectively with shore personnel, ship crew, and other operators to coordinate crane operations and ensure efficient workflow. Use radios, hand signals, or other communication devices as necessary. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of cargo handling activities, including logs of operations, cargo manifests, and equipment maintenance records. Emergency Response: Respond promptly and appropriately to emergency situations or equipment malfunctions, taking corrective actions or alerting appropriate personnel. Environmental Compliance: Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and standards during cargo handling operations, including proper disposal of wastes and adherence to pollution prevention measures. Qualifications Experience: Proven experience as a Ship Crane Operator or similar role in maritime operations. Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating and controlling ship cranes, understanding load capacities, and using crane control systems effectively. Safety Awareness: Strong commitment to safety practices and protocols, including knowledge of maritime safety regulations. Physical Fitness: Ability to perform tasks that require physical strength and endurance, often in challenging weather conditions. Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a team, communicating and coordinating with diverse personnel in a multicultural environment. Problem Solving: Strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot operational issues and make sound decisions under pressure. Flexibility: Willingness to work fluctuating hours, rotating shifts, overtime, nights, and weekends as required by operational needs. Preferred Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Current TWIC or ability to obtain TWIC credentials. Additional certifications in crane operation, rigging, or maritime operations. Familiarity with international shipping practices and procedures. Working Conditions: Work may be performed outdoors on ships, docks, or offshore platforms, often exposed to varying weather conditions including extreme heat/humidity and noise levels. Periodic travel and extended periods away from home may be required, depending on the nature of the maritime operations. Scheduling: Fluctuating hours, rotating shifts, overtime, nights, and weekends as required by operational needs.
