Job Summary:The Head of Construction is responsible for all the departments Construction Management activities and growth. Leading by example, the Head of Construction will ensure all work is compliant and executed within the established guidelines and budgets and provide exceptional leadership and mentorship to the Construction department staff. Success will be measured by the ability to procure new projects and clients, lead and motivate teams, and bring projects to completion on time and within budget.The Head of Construction Key Responsibilities:· Initiates new business opportunities with current client portfolio and new business development.Maintains customer relationships.Provide estimates/quotes to current clientsUpdates project status and completion dates in Procore weekly.Work with the Bookkeeper to monitor weekly and monthly billings and collections.Review the construction departments monthly financial and operational performance and complete monthly reports for ownership to review.Leads team in a thoughtful and motivating manner. Sets and leads by example. Builds the Construction department team from the Project Estimator and Projects Manager down.Attends all mandatory company and client meetings.Hold weekly calls with the team.Project ManagementLeads the project team to create new projects in Procore, by defining the scope of the project and forecasting the proper amount of labor, material, and travel costs to successfully deliver company services for the projects while maintaining set profit margins.Maintains communication with staff, clients, and subcontractors to provide project information and updates to ensure that they have a complete understanding of the scope of work, along with the necessary tools, equipment, and materials to complete the project successfully.Review and manage all project-related change orders.Provide oversight and approval of all timecards and expenses for each project in Procore.Review project scope of work in tandem with customer-specific project completion process to ensure all necessary inspection records and documentation have been completed and uploaded into Procore.Manages schedule and project budget to ensure both are effectively maintained.Ensures project quality is maintained to meet or exceed company and client standards and expectations.Manage project close-out to ensure timely processing of invoices.Review and manage each project's contract documents, drawings, specifications, and scopes of work.Procure and manage any vendors and subcontractors for each project when in-house resources are unavailable.Obtain any other project and or client-required certifications as requested.SchedulingManages all project schedule requests through Procore.Works with the Administration, Human Resources, and Logistics teams to correctly update employee skill sets and confirm correct resources are scheduled for each project.Alert the Director of Operations of upcoming projects that may affect weekends, holidays, vacation requests, or any other scheduling function in advance prior to project start or resource request.All additional requests made by the Director of Operations or ownership teamMinimum Qualifications:Excellent time management skillsStrong Computer aptitude. Must be proficient in Procore, Excel, Word, and Outlook.Strong written and oral communication skillsExtensive knowledge of reading blueprints, plans, specifications, contracts, quotes, purchase orders, change orders, etc.Extensive knowledge of City, County, and municipality requirements (i.e., Standard Plans and Specifications)Understand means and methods of construction associated with underground utilities, grading, demolition, and civil engineering construction.Has a working knowledge of the cost of goods and services.Understands the sequencing of work and the strategy of creating effective project schedules.Strong negotiating skillsExperience with the State of California Building Code and RegulationsRequired: 10+ years of progressive experience leading construction projects and teamsRequired: Successful candidates must pass the following pre-employment requirements prior to beginning employment: background check. Background checks include, but are not limited to, Social Security Verification, Prior Employment Verification, Motor Vehicle Records, Personal and Professional References, and Criminal History.· Desired: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
