Quality Control Manager(qualified per ANSI/AISC 360 section N4)Reports to PresidentSupervises no positionsResponsibilitiesPre-surface preparation inspection.Perform visual inspection of all welds per AWS Section 8.15.1 and Figure 3.6Pieces requiring corrective work are to be tagged and defective welds marked with chalk.Correct any defective welds and re-inspectNote corrective welding on shop inspectors record drawings.Note welders mark requiring corrective work on the quality control sheet.Perform visual inspection of all cuts, copes, etc., for structural defects and cosmetics.Perform dimensional inspection when required.Check off materials loaded for shipping against the control sheet.Communicates on a daily basis with the President.Surface PreparationCheck the degree of surface cleanliness per visual comparison to SSPC standard.Check the surface profile per visual comparison to SSPC StandardPieces with non-conforming areas are to be tagged, areas marked with chalk and corrective action taken to correct the non-conforming surface which must then be re-inspected.Testing during application of coatingsCheck that the material being applied is the correct materialConfirm that the material remains within the manufacturers recommended shelf life.Check the temperature of the coating material, and the pot life at that temperature.Check that materials are properly mixed, thinned and strained.Application must be as specified.Check that the ambient and surface conditions are within limits prior to start of coating.Check that the applied film shows proper flow without sags, runs and in the proper WFT range.Testing Cured Film, First or Prime CoatCheck for proper DFT and defectsRepair ProceduresRepair procedures will vary with different types of paint and different manufacturers, all repairs to be made per the manufacturers recommendation.Application of a second coatVerify that the prime coat has been properly applied, cured, and complies with the job specifications.Check that the surface and ambient temperature, humidity, and dew point are within requirements.After these factors have been confirmed, the same instructions for confirming the proper materials being used, mixed, thinned, etc., for the prime coat are repeated for the second and all successive coats.Record of inspectionsInspectors record, sign, and date all inspections on QC formOutside Testing LabWorks with outside testing labs and inspectorsShop Inspectors Training ProgramMound Technologies Inc. operations and procedures and quality assurance manual.AISC shop inspector training guide.Associated Builders and Contractors-Ironworker IIAttendance at the shop weld inspection seminar (Hobart or Similar)Regular review of industry publications
