Job Purpose/Summary:The R&D Manager leads the R&D team in developing innovative new products for the mining industry. This role involves guiding innovation in materials, design, and manufacturing processes from conception to launch, ensuring alignment with strategic business objectives.Essential Functions/Responsibilities:Lead innovation in materials, design, and manufacturing processes by creating solutions to customer needs and opportunities.Develop and execute long-term R&D strategies aligned with the companys vision and market trends.Cultivate a pipeline of new product opportunities, including new-to-the-world products, product line extensions, existing product improvements, and cost-saving initiatives.Effectively manage projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams"”product managers, sales, marketing, engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and finance to develop innovative and profitable products and product platforms.Work with cross-functional teams to create compelling business cases for new products based on potential market value and expected product costs.Define and implement product development and testing methodologies to evaluate product performance and value.Participate in the creation and management of patent processes to establish, protect, and maintain intellectual property affiliated with the company strategy.Streamline time to market by working with marketing, sales, supply chain, quality, regulatory, and operations teams.Travel up to 25% for field testing, sales training, and market data collection.Lead, mentor, and develop the R&D team, fostering a collaborative and innovative culture.Act as a key strategic partner in the company's leadership team, contributing to overall business growth and development.Necessary Abilities/Skills/Certifications:Identify and anticipate market trends and needs.Strong presentation, analytical, judgment, and influencing skills, with experience in business models and financial tools.Develop relationships with vendors and qualify new materials/suppliers as needed to support new product development.Build & test physical prototypes using various tools and processes.Conceive, design, and build new manufacturing processes and prepare business justification for new capital equipment.Possess a working knowledge of electronics, sensors, data analysis tools, and rigorous technical methodologies including modeling, simulation, testing, analysis, and documentation.Excellent organization and prioritization skills in a fast-paced environment.Proven leadership abilities to manage and inspire a diverse team.Strategic thinking and ability to contribute to high-level decision-making.Preferred Experience:Bachelors degree in Engineering, Science, Technology, or a related discipline (Masters degree preferred).5+ years of experience in new product design, development, and manufacturing Preferred experience of design and production of thermoplastic and elastomeric parts.Proven track record in high-performance, entrepreneurial organizations, with knowledge of the patent process Supervisory Responsibility and Budget Accountability:Oversee R&D laboratory facilitiesManage R&D team membersManage R&D budget
