About the Payroll and Benefits Specialist Role The Payroll and Benefits Specialist plays a critical role in managing payroll processing and benefits administration, ensuring employees are supported with accurate pay and access to essential benefits. This role requires a keen eye for detail, strong organizational skills, and a proactive approach to handling payroll and benefits-related inquiries. As a key contact for both internal employees and external agencies, the Payroll and Benefits Specialist ensures compliance with payroll and benefits regulations while delivering exceptional service. Key Responsibilities of the Payroll and Benefits Specialist Process employment verification requests quickly and efficiently. Manage and complete garnishment answer notices, ensuring compliance with legal requirements. Generate, review, and distribute a variety of payroll and workforce reports, including new hire, termination, headcount, employee changes, and leave of absence reports. Extract and import sales commission files from sales systems into payroll systems across multiple locations. Accurately enter payroll transactions such as driver commissions, merchandiser pay, bonuses, and sales deductions (over/short deductions, loan deductions, etc.). Assist in bi-weekly payroll processing, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies. Set up and maintain garnishments and child support deductions in the payroll system and internal database. Process Qualified Medical Child Support Orders (QMCSO) and National Medical Support Notices (NMSN) per legal requirements. Handle unemployment claims, providing wage verification and necessary documentation. Coordinate benefits communication, distributing announcements and updates while maintaining internal intranet postings. Conduct deduction reviews to ensure payroll and benefits contributions are accurate. Represent the Payroll and Benefits Specialist role in new hire onboarding, educating employees about 401(k) and company benefits. Support 401(k) audits, gathering required documents and preparing requested reports. What You Bring as a Payroll and Benefits Specialist Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience in payroll and benefits administration. Bilingual candidates preferred (English/Spanish a plus). At least five years of experience in a payroll and benefits function, preferably within a mid-to-large-sized company.
