Lead Book Buyer and Receiver

P&T Knitwear is a multi-function bookstore located at 180 Orchard Street that engages with the larger community through its cafe, podcast studio, and events operation. We are looking for an in-house Lead Book Buyer and Receiver who is adaptable, team-oriented, and has experience assessing customer demographics to influence inventory decisions. Lead Book Buying responsibilities include: Meet with assigned publisher sales reps to review frontlist catalogs and draft frontlist buys for forthcoming seasons. Consult with GM on budgets, merchandising, and plans for the incoming frontlist. Stay abreast of local and national reading, book, and publisher trends. Run daily sales reports and maintain awareness of what's selling, what is and isn't popular, and general customer trends at the store. Meet regularly with GM and Inventory Specialist to evaluate the sales health of sections; review the success of frontlist orders; and plan returns and section changes. Oversee backlist restocking as needed.Report buying incongruities to the General Manager.Maintain a neat, organized work station.Perform bookseller duties on the sales floor, as needed, time permitting.Receiving responsibilities include: Receive shipments, check for damages and sort stock for distribution in the store.Keep record of invoices sent and received.Keep record of credit memos.Process and mail out publisher returns.Resolve any shipping or merchandise issues.Abide by all OSHA-complaint guidelines for safe lifting and pushing. Booksellers must be able to lift up to 35 pounds. Qualifications:At least 3 years of experience book buying, including paying vendorsAt least 1 year receiving book inventoryExperience directly interacting with publishersWe offer very competitive benefits, including but not limited to:Medical, dental, and vision (fully company-paid premium for the HDHP)Access to pre-tax commuter benefits14 days vacation in the first year after a 30-day probationary period, and 20 days per year thereafterParticipation in P&T Knitwear's 401(k) planThis is a full-time position paying $25/hour.We are an equal opportunity employer.
