Customs Entry WriterLocationManhattan, NY / Jamaica, NYReports toCustoms Compliance Manager / Operations ManagerRole OverviewThe Customs Entry Writer is responsible for the preparation and submission of accurate and compliant customs entries for imports, ensuring timely clearance of goods through U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). This position requires detailed knowledge of customs regulations, tariff classifications, and international trade compliance.Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare and submit accurate customs entries for import shipments, ensuring compliance with all U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulationsReview and analyze import documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, and bills of lading, to ensure proper tariff classification and valuationWork closely with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and other stakeholders to facilitate the smooth and timely clearance of shipmentsEnsure timely resolution of any discrepancies or issues related to customs entries, including liaising with CBP and other regulatory authoritiesMonitor and update the status of shipments in CargoWise or other relevant systems, ensuring all customs-related information is tracked and recorded accuratelyMaintain knowledge of current customs regulations, tariff schedules, and trade compliance requirements to ensure accuracy in documentationAssist in preparing and submitting monthly reports on customs entries, duties, and taxes paid, as well as any related costs or discrepanciesSupport the Customs Compliance Manager with audits, inspections, and other compliance-related activitiesMaintain a strong working relationship with clients, vendors, and CBP to ensure efficient and effective import operationsQualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in International Business, Logistics, or related field preferred2-5 years of experience as a Customs Entry Writer, Customs Broker, or in a related role within the logistics and freight forwarding industryIn-depth knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations, tariff classification, and the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS)Experience using CargoWise, SAP, or other customs compliance software platformsStrong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environmentExcellent communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with both internal teams and external regulatory agenciesAbility to work independently and as part of a team to ensure the timely and accurate clearance of shipments.BenefitsCompetitive salary based on experienceComprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and retirement plansCareer growth opportunities within a leading global logistics organization
