Pixel Acuity, a division of Digital Transitions, provides photo imaging services to clients in the heritage space, including museums, libraries, public archives, and corporate archives.Job DescriptionPixel Acuity is seeking a short-term (3-4 month) Object/Art Handler at the Los Angeles: Culver City location. This role will be primarily responsible for handling nitrate film as part of a medium-scale digitization project. In this position, you will have the chance to learn about historical photographic processes, archival materials handling, and cutting edge instant-capture digitization techniques. Students who are pursuing cultural heritage careers and are looking for experience in a real-world cultural collections environment are encouraged to apply. Qualifications and ExperiencePrevious exposure to and knowledge of working within museums, libraries, or archivesExperience with heritage materials including, but not limited to, bound and unbound manuscripts, photographic prints, and positive and negative filmKnowledge of Mac operating systems and associated software and hardwareHighly organized, self-motivated with ability to work both supervised and unsupervisedExperience with photography/image software suites (Capture One, Adobe Lightroom, etc.)Great communication skills and ability to work with othersExcellent attention to detail and organizational skills Project/ServiceTransport, handle, arrange, and dust fragile archival materials Work with a digital imaging specialist to create digital surrogates of archival objects Provide quality control assistance for digital surrogates as necessary Data entry and database cleanup duties as necessary Handle and support objects of varying fragility with care throughout the imaging processTrack and maintain pace of prepared objects with production rate of the Digital Imaging Specialist Maintain and track systemic organization of material using previously established workflowsCommunicate with the Digital Imaging Specialist throughout the production processAlign with production expectations throughout the projectRate:Independent Contractor positionHourly pay: $20Work based on Project/Service estimated 20 hours per weekAvailable work hours are between 9:30am to 5:00pm, Monday to FridayPhysical Requirements:Able to lift 40 poundsAble to work in front of a computer for around 6 hours per dayAble to walk up and down one flight of stairs multiple times per day
