In just five years, we've acquired and turned around brands including: Backcountry, Sur La Table, Direct Buy, One Kings Lane, and Touch of Modern, saving thousands of jobs.We are adding a Corporate/Senior Corporate Counsel (depending on experience/seniority) to our team! Reporting to the Assistant General Counsel, supporting a growing family of brands, you will be given the opportunity to work on novel issues and to creatively solve unique business problems in a wide variety of legal subject areas. The ideal candidate will be based in the greater Chicago area and will work a hybrid schedule out of the downtown Chicago office (2 days in office and 3 days remote). This role is challenging - above and beyond the day-to-day responsibilities, you'll have a big role within a fast-paced team.This position will report into the Assistant General Counsel.What you get to do every day:Reviewing, drafting, and negotiating commercial agreements (e.g., vendor, supplier, marketing/advertising, licensing, IT, etc.) and real estate agreements. Supporting M&A transactions and joint ventures.Assisting with litigation support, including eDiscovery assistance and reviewing filings and motions.Advising on business operations and initiatives and assisting with contract management. Working cross-functionally across the legal department and multiple business units.What you bring to the role:3+ years of relevant experience, including commercial contracting and real estate experience Experience in any or all of the following areas: M&A, intellectual property, data privacy, marketing/advertising, and/or litigation Prior in-house experience, particularly at a public company, and/or prior law firm experience Proven track record of accountability, attention to detail, and organization in a fast-paced environmentAbility to manage multiple tasks and deadlines under pressureAbility to work independently and collaboratively at all levels of the company; willingness to support colleagues on whatever is neededExperience with litigation or management of outside litigation counselSense of humor Ability to think autonomously and outside-the-boxJD degree and license to practice lawWhat's in it for you?Salary: $155,000 - $185,000/year + bonusPTO Medical/Dental/Vision and a variety of supplemental policies available Company 401K match Company Health Spending Account (HSA) match Company provides group life insurance at no cost COBRA reimbursement for salaried employees until health insurance eligible Paid HolidaysBirthday off with pay!
