Position: High Voltage Cable Design EngineerLocation: Huntersville, NCJob Type: Full-timeTravel: Up to 60% of the timeJob Overview:Our client, a leading provider in the high voltage cable and systems industry, is seeking a High Voltage Cable Design Engineer. This role will be responsible for designing and analyzing underground high voltage (HV) and extra-high voltage (EHV) transmission cable systems, including associated components and accessories. The successful candidate will work closely with various internal teams and customers, providing engineering solutions and ensuring the highest standards of performance and safety.Key Responsibilities:Design complete cable system solutions for voltage classes ranging from 69kV to 500kV, including accessories, link boxes, fiber optic components, grounding details, and bonding schemes.Utilize advanced computer programs and analytical techniques to meet project/bid requirements and solve technical challenges.Serve as a subject matter expert, analyzing and studying the electro-mechanical behavior of HV/EHV cable systems to support installation and in-field applications.Lead the preparation of technical specifications, proposals, contract documents, and safety documents, collaborating with the Sales, Marketing, and Project Management teams.Enhance operational efficiency by revising and improving existing design and engineering processes.Support manufacturing teams throughout the production cycle, creating testing plans, leading design handover meetings, and resolving issues on the manufacturing floor.Lead or participate in research and development projects, using the "Stage Gate" process for project management, including planning, timeline forecasting, and budget management.Conduct formal technical presentations for customers and industry conferences, resolving significant technical issues and developing action plans.Train and mentor junior engineers, providing guidance on technical calculations and project execution.Promote a culture of safety in the workplace and project sites, adhering to the client's commitment to a zero-incident environment.Qualifications:Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.Experience: 10 years of relevant experience or a combination of education, experience, and demonstrated accomplishments in high voltage cable design.Technical Knowledge:In-depth knowledge of underground power transmission engineering, with the ability to coordinate activities and resolve technical issues.Proficient in ICEA, AEIC, IEC, and IEEE standards, along with thermal, mechanical, and electrical field calculations.Strong ability to read and analyze engineering drawings and technical specifications.Expertise in software packages including Cymcap, Comsol Multiphysics, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Matlab, PSCAD, Pull Planner, and Microsoft Office Suite.Proficiency in Visual Basic and similar programming languages for spreadsheet and macro coding in Microsoft Excel.Strong technical writing and communication skills, with the ability to interface with customers and internal teams.Deep understanding of power transmission cable materials, testing processes, and related industry standards.Key Competencies:Nimble Learning - Quick to learn new systems, technologies, and methods.Customer Focus - Dedicated to delivering high-quality results to clients.Plans and Aligns - Able to effectively plan and align resources for optimal outcomes.Collaborates - Works well with internal and external teams to achieve common goals.Balance Stakeholders - Manages multiple priorities and balances stakeholder needs effectively.Action Oriented - Takes initiative and drives results, solving challenges proactively.Why Join Us?This role offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology in the high voltage cable industry, contributing to innovative solutions and collaborating with a diverse team.
