An assignment may end at any time. To obtain a regular position, the appointee will need to compete successfully in a County Exam when open. City of Berkeley has its own health department.1.67 million residents.THE POSITIONUnder the general direction of the Councils and Commissions Manager, the Developmental Disabilities Coordinator provides administrative assistance to the Board of Directors of the Alameda County Developmental Disabilities Council and to the broad-based membership in fulfilling obligations related to the planning, development, coordination, review, and evaluation of public and private services for and advocacy on behalf of persons with developmental disabilities; represents the interest of Alameda County on behalf of persons with developmental disabilities at public meetings and related gatherings at State and local levels; and performs related work as required. Serves as a designated liaison representing local and regional health improvement efforts, with emphasis on populations with access and functional needs.DISTINGUISHING FEATURESThe Developmental Disabilities Coordinator, a single-position class, provides professional staff support to the Board of Directors and the broad-based membership of the Developmental Disabilities (DD) Council which is composed of consumers, parents, interested citizens, and professionals concerned with improved services for children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families. The Developmental Disabilities Coordinator is expected to attend evening and weekend meetings and events throughout Alameda County and other areas in the state. Possession of a valid California Driver's license is required.EXAMPLE OF DUTIESNOTEThe following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.Provides staff support to the DD Council and its subcommittees. Manage a database of membership of the DD Council and its mailing lists. Informs the Board, committees, and DD Council members of current issues, trends, legislation, and problems in the field of developmental disabilities, including newsletter publications. Develops effective working relationships with the service delivery community for persons with developmental disabilities and their families. Serves as a catalyst for development and coordination of services in Alameda County. Serves as an advocate for persons with developmental disabilities and their families and for the provider community who serves them. Provides consultation and technical assistance to service providers and the public in general to assure quality of care and access to services. Serves as a resource and clearing-house for information and referral on services. Participates in relevant committees, collaborations, and workgroups, e.g., Regional Center of the East Bay (RCEB), State Council on Developmental Disabilities, Children's Hospital Oakland, Transition Planning Team, Department of Rehabilitation, etc. Assures advocacy of the developmental disability community, acts as the Division representative for the Public Health Legislative Council, assuming all duties therein. Facilitates and participates in the annual DD Council planning effort.
