G&E Partners is collaborating with a leading heavy civil construction company specializing in major infrastructure projects across the US with a reputation for delivering high-quality projects on time and within budget. Following recent retirement, a Director of Preconstruction opportunity has presented itself in Chicago. Job Summary:We are seeking an experienced Director of Preconstruction to lead an estimating department in the preparation of accurate and competitive bids for heavy civil construction projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in estimating, team leadership, and a deep understanding of construction methodologies, costs, and risk assessment. You would be overseeing Preconstruction Managers and the entire Estimating Department.Markets: Heavy highway, Bridge, Utilities, Tunnels and Site Development. Reporting into: Vice President of Preconstruction.Key Responsibilities:Lead and manage the estimating team to ensure accurate and competitive bid proposals.#Lead and manage preconstruction services such as sales, budgeting, estimating and client satisfaction.Develop and implement estimating strategies, processes, and best practices.Analyze project plans, specifications, and other documents to prepare detailed cost estimates.Identify and assess project risks, opportunities, and constructability challenges.Work closely with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams to ensure seamless project transitions.Prepare and oversee the preparation of detailed and accurate project estimates, including costs for materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractors, based on Bid-Build, Design-Build or CM/GC delivery methods.Lead value engineering efforts to serve our clients. Conduct thorough cost analysis and value engineering to optimize project budgets for our clients and ensure cost-effectiveness, as well as providing pricing alternates. Collaborate with subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors to obtain accurate pricing and competitive quotes.Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and new technologies in heavy civil construction.Present estimates and proposals to executive leadership, clients, and stakeholders.Mentor and develop junior estimators to build a high-performing team.Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.Qualifications & Requirements:Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred).Minimum of 10+ years of experience in heavy civil construction estimating, with 5+ years in a leadership role.8+ years experience in Preconstruction.Extensive experience with estimating software such as HCSS Heavy Bid, AGTEK, AutoCAD or similar.Strong knowledge of construction means, methods, and cost structures in heavy civil projects.Proven ability to lead and manage a team in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.Ability to analyze complex plans and develop accurate cost estimates.Strong understanding of subcontractor/vendor pricing and procurement processes.Why Join?Competitive salary and performance-based incentives.Comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance.401(k) with company match.Opportunities for career advancement and professional development.Collaborative and innovative work environment.If you or anyone in your network is interested in this position do not hesitate to apply to this listing below.
