This role will report to the SVP, Head of Communications and Chief of Staff, and plays a key part in shaping communication strategies that strengthen our brand and reputation in NYC's competitive real estate industry. This role will be responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with government officials, policymakers, and stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be well versed in effective communication strategies and have a strong understanding of public policy, and real estate development, with experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.ResponsibilitiesGovernment RelationsDevelop and execute strategies to engage with local government officials, regulatory bodies, and key stakeholders in the NYC real estate sector.Monitor and analyze legislative, regulatory, and political developments in New York City and how they impact real estate development, zoning, and business operations.Advocate for the company's interests through proactive lobbying efforts, meetings with city officials, and public testimony at city council hearings or zoning board meetings.Build and maintain relationships with elected officials, city agencies, industry associations, and community organizations to foster collaboration and support for development projects.Track and report on government policies, proposals, and actions that may impact real estate operations, development incentives, and urban planning in NYC.Corporate CommunicationsSupport the Head of Communications on creating and implementing comprehensive corporate communications strategies that position the company as a leader in the NYC real estate market.Assist with developing and distributing company announcements, press releases, and media statements, regarding development projects, acquisitions, or community involvement to ensure consistent and positive messaging.Work closely with Head of Communications and PR firms to manage media outreach, review and proofread external communications for accuracy and consistency, and assist in planning and coordinating high-impact external events.Act as a liaison for the company during media inquiries, public forums, and community engagement efforts, building strong relationships with journalists and media outlets specializing in real estate.Support internal communications to ensure employees are well-informed on public relations efforts and development initiatives.Research speaking engagement opportunities for Senior Leadership, develop a strong understanding of industry conferences and different speaking platforms. Create briefing documents for leadership ahead of speaking engagements.Research and manage award and accolade opportunities. Identify relevant industry awards, coordinate with internal teams to gather necessary information, and lead the application process to enhance company's visibility and recognition.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Political Science, Real Estate, or a related field (Master's preferred).5+ years of experience in government relations, corporate communications, public affairs, or real estate development.Strong knowledge of government processes, public policy, zoning regulations, and the NYC real estate market.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for different audiences.Proven experience in building and maintaining relationships with government officials, community leaders, and media outlets in the NYC real estate sector.Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.Proficiency in Microsoft Suite products, specifically Excel, and advanced knowledge of PowerPoint.Personal AttributesStrategic thinker with the ability to navigate the complex NYC real estate landscape and adapt to an ever-evolving political and business environment.Proactive and solution-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills.Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams, including development, legal, and operations.Detail-oriented, with a high level of professionalism and discretion.Total CompensationThe base salary range for this position is $100,000 to $115,000 per year.This position is eligible for a discretionary bonus.We also offer excellent Benefits and Perks to our employees, including: Full company paid health and dental, 401k, pension, housing and parking discounts, and wellness programs.All offered benefits are subject to the terms/conditions of the benefits plans.
