Aerospace Cost Analyst & Research EngineerLocation: Hampton, VA - ONSITEDuration: 6 month contract-to-hireMust-Have Requirements:B.S. or M.S. in Aerospace Engineering5-7 years of relevant experience in the aeronautics field.Proficiency in cost modeling and analysis. Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM).Skilled in Python code development and version control systems (Git).Competent in Microsoft Office products, especially Microsoft Teams.Positive, curious, enthusiastic about aviation, and able to work independently and in small teams.Knowledge of aircraft design, system design, manufacturing, and operations.Nice to Have Skills & Experience:Familiarity with analysis tools and design frameworks such as FLOPS/Aviary, OpenVSP3, ESP, and ModelCenter.Expertise in multi-disciplinary design and analysis models (MDAO).Experience with additional coding/scripting languages (MATLAB, VBScript, JavaScript).Piloting experience and a passion for aviation.Day-to-Day: Insight Global is seeking a talented and experienced Aerospace Cost Analyst with a background in Aerospace Engineering to work for one of our largest clients in the Hampton, VA area. This person will be responsible for supporting the aircraft life cycle cost estimation studies for an aeronautics systems analysis team that is focused on creating advanced concepts and technologies in relation to aeronautics; seeking to improve connectivity and save valuable resources. This team is responsible for developing subsonic aircraft concepts, airspace and aviation safety systems, strategic planning & systems research, as well as the design and analysis of aircraft development. Specifically, this person will be working on an advanced air transport technology project supporting the research and development for advanced fixed-wing transport aircraft (passengers, cargo, dual-use military) of the future, featuring revolutionary energy efficiency and environmental compatibility. The overarching mission of the project is to explore and develop technologies that enable this vision, without adversely impacting safety, cost, or mission design. Part of this work will be analyzing the cost implications on the entire aircraft system, as well as the cost implications on the overall aerospace mission.Key Responsibilities:Develop and Enhance Tools: Advance the Python-based PITRS tool for aircraft life-cycle cost estimation by improving accuracy, adding new capabilities, and integrating with existing analysis frameworks.Cost Estimation: Define cost estimating relationships based on aircraft design specifications, configurations, and operational concepts.Collaboration: Work closely with development teams to ensure seamless integration of PITRS with the design process and MBSA&E and Aviary OpenMDAO frameworks.Analysis and Reporting: Conduct concept-specific cost estimation analyses, document progress, and report results as required.Multi-disciplinary Optimization: Support the development of tools for subsonic aircraft design, including vehicle sizing, performance, geometry modeling, and technology trade studies.Compensation: $41/hr to $72/hr.Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.Benefit packages for this role will start on the 1st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching.
