GENERAL DESCRIPTION:This individual will design and coordinate the fire sprinkler systems for commercial, industrial, and residential buildings. He or she will design and create the finished representation for the sprinkler systems using drawings, drafting skills and tools. The drawings produced will be used as a guide by every other link in the chain of construction, both on-site and in the office. The designer will have responsibility for the planning of a project including scheduling, creating material stock listing, analyzing changes, solving problems and total delivery of the project according to established criteria. Encourages employee commitment to accomplish the work, mission and vision of the organization.ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS/DUTIESDesign and Layout of fire sprinkler systemsAnalyze new & existing buildings for NFPA 13, 14 and 20 compliances, compose reports detailing design changes necessary.Prepare submittal drawings and documentation for new sprinkler systems and alterations to existing systems.Conduct hydraulic analysis of fire sprinkler system designs, including sprinklers, standpipes, pumps, municipal supplies, etc.Secure permits and approvalsCoordination of sprinkler system with architectural, structural and mechanical systemsWorking knowledge of NFPA 13, 14 and 20Review construction drawings and specificationsField survey of both new and existing buildingAttend on site coordination, scheduling and construction meetings.Material listingMaterial orderingUpdating of shop drawings and materials for project recordClose out proceduresProject ManagementReview of construction ASI, RFI, RFC, PR, CD etc.Prepare RFI's for scope clarification.Identifies changes in our scope and quantifies for Estimating DepartmentDocument and track change order submittal and approvalEstablish start dates and milestones from project schedule.Maintains dates and milestones in our Project Management software program.Time management and prioritization of multiple projectsCoordinates with General Contractors and/or customers to meet schedule.Document and track field changesOtherDemonstrates ability to work independently with minimal supervision.Ability to strategically develop, adapt and streamline processes.Secures, develops and maintains working relationships.Works flexible hours if needed for field survey.Follow safety rules and good driving habits.Other duties as assigned.JOB QUALIFICATIONSHigh School Diploma - associate degree preferred.3 years AutoCAD experienceNICET III Certification preferred.Driver License with Clean MVRWorking knowledge of computer skills related to position.Strong mechanical aptitudeGood problem-solving skills.Ability to negotiate uneven terrain, climb step and extension ladders.OTHER JOB QUALIFICATIONSAbility to negotiate uneven terrain, climb step and extension ladder.Must be able to lift equipment up to 50 pounds.Be PunctualAbility to work in all conditions (Hot/Cold/Humid weather, Small/Cramped Quarters, etc.)Maintain a Clean and Safe Work EnvironmentAttention to DetailThe pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00 per hour depending on years of experience and licenses + travel expenses if applicable.National Fire & Safety and all affiliated entities are Equal Employment Opportunity employers.
