Substation Technician Commissioning Engineers Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Substation Technician to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical substation equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the reliable operation of high-voltage electrical systems, including transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, and protection systems. This position requires hands-on experience with electrical maintenance and a thorough understanding of safety protocols in high-voltage environments.Key ResponsibilitiesInstallation & SetupInstall new electrical equipment such as transformers, breakers, switches, and control systems.Assist with the setup and commissioning of newly constructed or upgraded substations.Inspection & MaintenanceConduct routine inspections, maintenance, and testing of substation equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, and protection relays.Perform preventive maintenance tasks such as cleaning, lubricating, and calibrating equipment to ensure optimal performance.Monitor electrical systems for any signs of malfunction or degradation and perform diagnostic tests.Repairs & TroubleshootingTroubleshoot electrical systems and components to diagnose faults or failures.Repair or replace damaged or faulty equipment, including high-voltage systems and control circuits.Test repaired equipment to ensure it is functioning properly and safely.Safety ComplianceAdhere to strict safety procedures and protocols when working with high-voltage equipment and during all on-site activities.Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all company safety guidelines.Ensure compliance with electrical codes, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.Emergency ResponseRespond to emergency situations, such as outages or equipment failures, to restore service in a timely manner.Work collaboratively with other team members and departments to troubleshoot and resolve urgent issues.Documentation & ReportingMaintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, repairs, and equipment performance.Document test results and recommend corrective actions for any issues identified during maintenance.Assist in preparing reports for regulatory compliance and safety audits.Continuous ImprovementParticipate in ongoing training and development programs to stay updated on new technologies and industry best practices.Contribute to the development of maintenance schedules and improve operational efficiency.Required QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent (Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field preferred).Certification in electrical work or a related discipline is a plus (e.g., Journeyman Electrician).Proven experience (typically 2+ years) in substation maintenance, electrical systems, or power distribution.Strong understanding of high-voltage electrical equipment and systems, including transformers, circuit breakers, relays, and switchgear.Knowledge of electrical safety standards, including lockout/tagout procedures and arc flash safety.Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex electrical systems.Strong attention to detail and a commitment to safety.
