Doherty Steel, Inc. has been in business since 1959 and is family owned and operated.Job Brief:The primary function of the Senior Estimator is to provide accurate bid proposals and scope analysis for potential projects. Additional estimator responsibilities will include quote review, project management, and material purchasing. The Estimator will prepare pricing estimates on new projects and estimate prices on change orders for existing contracts. He/she must exercise good judgment and have experience in working with purchasing, labor, equipment, and transportation costs. These qualifications are necessary to arrive at full cost estimates with appropriate profit margins to achieve company goals.Estimator Responsibilities:Review drawings, specifications, and other documents, to successfully bid jobs at a profit, for fabrication and erection when indicatedUnderstand how to quantify labor and material costs on a projectNegotiate with customers and communicate with DSI staffWork with the Project Manager following a successful bid, to ensure an accurate transferring of information and defining of scope, including revisions, additions, and deletionsPresent bids in their entirety, at job kickoff meetingsContinue to work with Project Management on pricing issues pertaining to the bid or to revisions.Deal with customers in a firm but friendly mannerKnow what is outside of our scope and what to sub out or to excludeRequirements:3+ Years of estimating experience in structural steel erectionAbility to read design drawingsUnderstand shop detail drawings, erection plans and construction specificationsUnderstand construction concepts and methodsMathematical and organizational skillsComputer skills preferred: Tekla EPM PowerFabComputer skills acceptable: Aveva FabTrolNoteThis job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by the employee(s) incumbent in this position.
