Associate, Criminal Defense & Family LawLocation: Columbus, OH 43231Schedule: Full Time, ExemptReports to: Office ManagerDepartment: LegalJob Summary:The Associate provides support to an assigned attorney, conducting legal research, assisting with briefs, and performing other administrative and clerical duties as requested in the areas of Criminal Defense and Family LawSupervisory Responsibilities: NoneDuties & Responsibilities:Researches relevant case law and statutory precedent.Analyzes legal documents and briefs, ensuring accurate statement and depiction of facts, case law, and precedent provided. Reports any inconsistencies or suggested revisions to the attorney.Prepares various types of correspondence with parties of the assigned case.Prepares, files, and delivers a variety of legal documents including affidavits, petitions, and pleadings.Drafts and files court documents and supporting papers.Takes witness statements and assists with depositions.Attends and assists with negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and other meetings as required.Attends and assists with hearings, pretrials, settlement conferences and trials as required.Maintains exhibits, preparing and organizing various types of tangible evidence as needed for court appearances.Arranges transportation and lodging for witnesses, experts, and other trial participants as needed.Performs other duties as assigned.Required Skills & Abilities: Thorough understanding of the law, court procedures, court systems, and rules of the assigned jurisdiction for Family Law and Criminal DefenseSuperior verbal and written communication skills.Superior research and analytical skills.Excellent interpersonal skills in a variety of situations.Excellent work ethic.Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.Education & Experience:Juris Doctorate or equivalent legal education required; superior academic credentials preferred.Must be a member in good standing of the Ohio State Bar.Key Performance Indicators for the Position: Completes a quarterly checklist custom to the position.Attends regular one-on-ones with manager to assist in development.Maintains overall customer satisfaction rating of 3 or moreCompletes learning objectives assigned each quarter.Income generation and case acquisition match quarterly metrics laid out in the quarterly reviews.Completes and logs billable hours on a daily basis which equals 80 legal hours per monthTracks and monitors income generation.Attends and directs weekly matter meetings with the team.Completes assigned networking opportunitiesCompletes and seeks out additional professional development opportunities.Physical Requirements:Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.Who Are We: Equal Opportunity EmployerWe do not discriminate based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, disability, genetic information, or any other status protected by law or regulation.
