National Capital Treatment & Recovery, formerly Phoenix House, a nonprofit substance use treatment facility in Arlington, VA is looking for a fitness trainer to work with our Adult Men and Women in treatment.Schedule: This position is part-time every other weekend, Saturdays and Sundays, 7am-5pm. Required: Must be a CPT- Certified Personal Trainer, and have experience working with adults with mental health issues/addiction.SUMMARYThis position will work with patients in our adult residential substance use treatment programs. Will oversee and direct aerobic activities, specifically spinning and stationary bike routines, strength training, specifically TRX, and stretching on mats and balls and appropriate floor routines for the individual class.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESWork with adult patients of all fitness levels, with an emphasis on proper technique and functional movementsDemonstrate how to carry out various exercises and routinesWatch patients do exercises and show or tell them correct techniques to minimize injury and improve fitnessGive alternative exercises during workouts or classes for different levels of fitness and skillMonitor patients' progress and adapt programs as neededExplain and enforce safety rules and regulations on sports, recreational activities, and the use of exercise equipmentGive patients information or resources about nutrition, weight control, and lifestyle issues and their application to substance use recoveryDesign workouts activate the neuroendocrine response (responsible for the "runner's high")Provide education on maintaining a healthy lifestyle which may also minimize drug cravings, serve as a positive distraction and is a beneficial way to structure the day without using drugs or alcoholAdminister fitness assessmentsEDUCATION/EXPERIENCEBachelor's degree related to a fitness field (exercise science, physical education, kinesiology or related subject)3-5 years of experience working with patients with substance use disorder or PTSDCPR and First Aid certificationMust be a Certified Personal Trainer
