Cardinal McCloskey Community Charter School (CMCCS) is seeking a dedicated Reading Specialist to empower our instructional staff with expert guidance and resources in literacy education. In this role, you will deliver targeted reading intervention through both push-in and pull-out instruction, helping students overcome challenges and reach their full potential. The Reading Specialist will collaborate closely with the School Principal and the Director of Curriculum and Instruction to drive success in literacy across the school. Responsibilities will include: Developing effective, standards-aligned lessons that support student learning and achievement.Provide direct and indirect instruction to ELL studentsUtilize appropriate and rigorous curricula and instructional materials to engage students.Administer, collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative data gathered from a variety of assessments on each student to evaluate progress.Reflect regularly on data from student assessments with colleagues, administration, or students' families in order to inform his or her work, modify practices and increase student achievement.Research and provide content knowledge and resources to staff about literacy including but not limited to strategies, assessment techniques and interpretation of assessmentsActively work to improve his or her own practice, to acquire and enhance the skills and knowledge necessary for excellent instruction and to increase his or her effectiveness in the classroom and in the school community.Expected Qualifications and Training:Masters Degree in Reading or LiteracyMinimum of three years experience as a reading specialist or literacy coach in an elementary schoolAppropriate New York State certification.Understanding of and commitment to the mission, goals, educational philosophy and activities of the school, as described in the school's charter.Extensive knowledge and experience with phonics-based reading programs and running recordsExperience with a variety of reading intervention programs and methodologiesExperience working with students, parents and families from urban environments.Experience working with students at risk of educational failure.We are hiring for an immediate start date and onboarding on a rolling basis. The starting salary for this position begins at $70,000. New hires can expect to be brought into the organization at a salary at or near the starting amount, depending on relevant experience in operations and internal equity.
