The School VisionThe Public Safety Academy's vision is to provide the Jeffco community with a first in the state innovative public safety center that trains both students and industry professionals in a public and community-based environment developed in partnership with local public safety agencies. This center will develop the next generation of public safety professionals ready to serve their community, while also providing an innovative training and community environment for public safety agencies. For more information see our webpageAn Academy ApproachIn conjunction with core subjects, three pathways will be developed within an academy model, consisting of the following proposed pathways: Emergency Medical ServicesLegal ServicesCriminal Justice The pathways will utilize an academy model approach. This is characterized by cohort-based learning, real-world application, community and business partnerships, and connected & sequential coursework that builds throughout their 9-12 grade experience. Ultimately, the principal will work with senior leadership to build enrollment in each pathway to approximately 125 students for an expected enrollment of 375 students in 9-12 as an option school within the district. Envisioned Outcomes for Jeffco's Public Safety AcademyLocal public safety and law enforcement agencies co-design coursework and experiences, fostering deep investment in the program for mutual benefit. This collaboration ensures students gain access to the necessary coursework and experiences to secure post-graduation employment with these agencies if they wish.Produces graduates with the skills needed to successfully navigate the complexities of the criminal justice and emergency response career fields. Our students will be fully equipped to be highly qualified for positions both in and out of our internal agency partners. Provides the Jeffco community with a first in the state innovative public safety center that trains both students and industry professionals in a public and community-based environment developed in partnership with local public safety agencies.Provides Jeffco students with opportunities to learn and engage in real life experiences under the supervision of safety professionals to enhance and fully develop skills correlated and integral to industry positions. Provides students with concurrent enrollment courses in public safety through a postsecondary partner. These credits are earned at no cost to students and their families. Provides students an academy model experience; a specialized program that prepares students for college and careers by integrating academics with career-focused themes. Students are part of a small learning community, with a college-prep curriculum centered on public safety pathways, partnerships with employers, and higher education.Offers local agencies access to resources, equipment, and physical environments in a two-story space built for industry-specific training and support. Architectural plans currently include a simulation tactical training wing, defensive tactics mat room, emergency response training gym including a first responder vehicle bay, large classrooms, and more. Architectural plans are subject to plan as needs or budget change. School FacilityWhile the renovation, construction plans, budget and timeline are still under development and subject to input from the principal, the initial facility design will include state-of-the-art indoor and outdoor learning and collaboration spaces including a 250-person capacity auditorium and flexible conference space. This will provide public safety professionals, students, educators and community members with experiences to enhance public safety and behavioral health support to our community. View rendering of Jeffco's proposed architectural design here: Jeffco?s PSAABOUT THE JOBWe are seeking a visionary Year Zero Principal to lead the launch of the Public Safety Academy, an innovative first-in-the-state public safety center that trains both students and industry professionals. The principal will work closely with senior leadership within the district and a project team to guide the establishment of this groundbreaking academy, ensuring its successful launch and smooth transition into the former Moore Middle School building following its first phase of construction or alternatively starting by being incubated in a current high school and moving into the Moore facility. The principal will be asked to make key recommendations to senior leadership in collaboration with the project team.This is a unique opportunity for a leader to collaborate with multiple stakeholders to create a high-impact, industry-relevant educational environment for the next generation of public safety professionals. The principal will serve as the driving force behind the strategic development, operational leadership, and integration of the academy, including overseeing a scaffolded launch approach, operational readiness, and ensuring the program aligns with our core values of community, public safety, and industry collaboration.Year 0 Responsibilities:Strategic Leadership & Construction Integration: Lead efforts to ensure the Public Safety Academy is ready for launch in the 2026-2027 school year in a smaller, strategic capacity, ultimately working towards a full capacity model of 375-400 students. The principal will work closely with district partners and construction teams in the timeline for Moore Middle School's ongoing phases of construction to incorporate an academy model. Alternatively, the leader will work towards a plan to incubate the academy within an existing high school until the new space is ready.Collaborative Partnerships: Build and maintain a close working relationship with the District's Postsecondary Workforce Readiness team aligning academy goals with district objectives and securing administrative endorsements.Develop strategic partnerships with local public safety agencies (ex. Dispatch Centers, Police Departments) to co-design curriculum and provide mentorship and real-world training opportunities.Curriculum Development & Pathway Integration: In collaboration with district, state and national partners, oversee the creation of the three proposed, distinct, career pathways within an academy model: Emergency Medical Services, Legal Services, and Criminal Justice. Work with district partners to ensure the curriculum also meets high academic standards for core content.Enrollment Growth & Marketing: Develop strategies to build enrollment to 375-400 students across grades 9-12 by fostering awareness of the academy's unique offerings. Work closely with district leadership to promote the academy and grow enrollment in each of the three pathways, with a target of approximately 125 students per pathway.Industry-Driven Education: Ensure the academy's curriculum emphasizes real-world application, cohort-based learning, and sequential coursework aligned with career-focused themes. Develop and implement mentorship programs that provide students with dynamic, hands-on experiences with industry professionals leading to industry certificates, concurrent enrollment opportunities and ultimately students that are capable of earning jobs in these industries.
