Position: Construction Inspector/Senior Construction Inspector - Public WorksSalary Range: $67 - $85/hr DOQLocation: San Diego, CAOverviewHoch Consulting is currently seeking a highly motivated Construction Inspector to work on a diverse range of infrastructure and public works projects in the water and transportation sectors. Key duties for this role include monitoring and documenting conformance to quality standards, performance criteria, code requirements, and other contract document requirements via daily inspections. The successful candidate must have strong verbal and written communication skills that will allow the candidate to engage with the Construction Manager/Resident Engineer, Contractor, Design Team, General Public, and Client. Typical Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to this position.Observe construction for conformance with the drawings and specifications, building codes, manufacturer's requirements, Greenbook, and/or other applicable standards and codes.Performs daily field inspections and maintains inspection records. Track and inspect daily activities of the contractor and measure completed items of work. Track and communicate with contractor and internal project team about non-conforming work.Inspect job site for safety and compliance to OSHA standards, applicable permits (i.e. traffic control permit or encroachment permit), and environmental restrictions or programs (i.e. water pollution control plan or SWPPP).Communicate with project team(s) regarding progress of construction work, issues encountered, potential issues, complaints received, and other needs. Have a working knowledge of, and ability to interpret, technical specifications, contract requirements, engineering drawings, technical submittals, and standard construction details. Assist Construction Manager/Resident Engineer with the measurement of progress pay estimates, analysis/review of contract change orders, and project schedule review. Assist in creating and maintaining QA/QC logs, deficiency logs, outstanding work log, and punch lists. Coordinate, witness, and participate in testing and commissioning. Represent the company to outside organizations, clients, and the public-at-large. Qualified candidates may work on one or more projects simultaneously.Required QualificationsEducation & ExperienceHigh School diploma or equivalent. 5+ years experience in the construction field at foreman level or above OR 5+ years of experience in construction management with a minimum of one year experience on public infrastructure projects is required.Experience with construction of horizontal projects - including but not limited to water, wastewater, water reuse, pipeline/conveyance, electrical infrastructure, transportation infrastructure - and/or vertical projects. Skills/QualificationsKnowledge of building codes, local City ordinances, and engineering practices for public agencies. Knowledge of Cal OSHA safety regulations as they relate to construction projects. Ability to identify and correct conditions that affect employee safety.Ability to read and interpret contract documents including plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports. Ability to maintain records and prepare reports, both manually and electronically.Knowledge of construction practices, physical characteristics and properties of roadway, structures, drainage and wet and dry utility systems, construction materials, and the approved methods and equipment used in making physical tests of construction materials.Ability to coordinate multiple complex projects, work in a team environment, and lead as assigned.Ability to tactfully handle challenging circumstances and facilitate resolution in an amicable manner.Valid California Driver's License or the ability to obtain one & have reliable transportation.Working knowledge of and basic proficiency with computers. Ability to create and use Construction Inspection Daily logs on computer/tablet. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.Preferred QualificationsCivil/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or Construction Management related coursework/certifications/associate degree preferred.Experience in water-related public works projects.Knowledge of Caltrans Construction Manual, Caltrans Bridge Construction Records Manual, and Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction ("Green Book")Safety Certifications including but not limited to: Cal OSHA Safety Awareness Trainings, OSHA 10 hour, OSHA 30 hour, & 40 Hour HAZWOPERInspection certifications including but not limited to: AWS-CWI Welding Inspector, ASME-CWI Welding Inspector, ACI Concrete Inspector, APWA Certified Public Infrastructure Inspector, ICC Special Inspector (all), NACE certified Protective Coatings Inspector, NASSCO certified CIPP and Manhole Rehab Inspector, CMAA CMIT or CMAA CCM.Ability to utilize other construction related software including Procore, Virtual Project Manager, Microsoft Project, and/or Primavera P6.
