Title: HVAC Mechanic IIUnder general supervision, operates, maintains, and repairs heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment for the DeKalb County School District (DCSD).Essential Functions:The following duties are representative of this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.• Performs troubleshooting and repair of building distribution systems including low-pressure steam distribution, heat exchangers, hot and cold deck systems, air handlers, and pneumatic and digital controls• Installs, troubleshoots, and repairs HVAC equipment and related systems including insulation, pulling pumps, motor compressors, chillers, and air-handler, troubleshooting pneumatic system, troubleshooting problems with boilers and furnace, and repairing and replacing piping and fittings• Performs regular HVAC system inspection and manufacturer recommended preventive maintenance, major component replacement work in conjunction with central energy management and control system operators• Performs seasonal overhauls and instructs repair teams in transitions of the system from heating to cooling and vice versa• Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies, promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices; purchases supplies and parts for repairs, as needed• Tracks, maintains, and prioritizes work orders on job status and results of work completed; completes requisitions for necessary parts, materials mad equipment to make repairs and to keep an inventory of frequently used items; produces records using computer software and database library• Reviews and interprets blueprints and schematic drawings to determine work sites, resources, and the need for advanced work• Communicates with school principals on how HVAC equipment is performing• Communicates with supervisor every morning on work plans; reviews any incomplete work orders to ensure completion and closes completed work orders electronically• Receives, investigates, and responds to an emergency call to help resolve any HVAC issues• Performs other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED required. Associate degree in HVAC or closely related area preferred.• Minimum three (3) years journey-level HVAC or closely related system installation, maintenance, and/or repair experience is required.• Valid driver's license required.• Universal EPA refrigerant handling certification required.• 3rd class NIULPE (National Institute for Uniform Licensing of Power Engineers) OR NATE (North American Technician Excellence) certification OR Restricted HVAC license preferred.
