We are a small boutique law firm in Charlotte seeking an experienced full-time paralegal/legal assistant to assist our growing firm. We are looking for a paralegal/legal assistant who can build and maintain relationships with our clients, keep our firm organized, and efficiently and effectively handle legal-related duties and tasks. We want someone who can follow SOPs while also asking questions and offering improvements to processes and systems. We require a candidate with at least 2 years' experience in probate/estate administration and prefer a candidate with at least 2 years' experience in civil litigation or employment law. While this is primarily a paralegal position with legal assistant duties, it also currently participates in all facets of the firm, including assisting with office operations and interacting with vendors as needed.Duties/ResponsibilitiesCommunicate with attorneys, clients, and other professionals (e.g., Clerk of Court) to discuss cases and firm projects.Draft, organize, and prepare legal documents, including engagement letters, probate/estate administration, estate planning, and corporate entity formation documents, and routine pleadings and motions and other litigation related documents.Assist attorneys with motion hearing and trial preparation, which may include attending trials and hearings.Proofread documents for typographical consistency, grammar, and spelling.File motions, pleadings, and probate documents according to applicable procedures and rules.Research and analyze statutes, regulations, legal articles, judicial decisions, and other legal sources; provides written analysis to attorneys when requested.Interviewing and communicating with prospective clients, current clients, and witnesses and prepare summaries of their statements.Prepare, organize, store, and maintain case files and documents in firm's electronic system (and paper when needed). Assist with office organization, supply management, and vendor interactions.Develop and maintain records for billable hours spent on specific cases.QualificationsAbility to work independently, manage diverse priorities, and be a problem solver; Understanding of legal language and principles, research methods, court pleadings and processes, and related matters;Experience with all facets of probate/estate administration, including determination of type of administration required, collection and distribution of assets, and preparation of Inventories and Annual Accounts;Experience with or knowledge of legal research;Experience with the phases of litigation and filings, including motions, discovery, evidence, litigation documents, and court rules;Experience performing administrative tasks such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, filing documents, and maintaining records;Knowledge of or experience with drafting, interpreting, revising, or otherwise working with contracts and similar documents; Certified as notary public (or willingness to obtain notary public certification) and able to attend in-office signings;Proactive team player and eager to learn different areas of the law;Strong organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail;Active listener with excellent verbal and written communication skills and client service skills;Ability to multitask, including keeping track of multiple files and deadlines;Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and legal practice management software;Ability to maintain confidentiality and abide by the NC Rules of Professional Conduct;Minimum of 2 years' experience as paralegal or legal assistant in probate/estate administration required; minimum of 2 years' experience as paralegal or legal assistant in civil litigation or employment law preferred;Paralegal certification or degree (Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's) in Paralegal Studies from an accredited program or related field preferred; Physical requirements: Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer; must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at timesCompensation and benefits $50-$65k/ year DOEIn-office position with flexible schedule, occasional remote work may be allowed as needed3 weeks paid time offMinimum of 9 paid holidaysHealth insurance reimbursementBusiness casual dressManageable workloads, no micro-management
