We are partnered with a leading developer, and owner-operator of utility-scale renewable energy projects, looking to add a Senior Counsel to their team in Austin. This role will report directly to the General Counsel, and will primarily be focusing on real estate and project development matters.Requirements:JD from an accredited Law School, and membership in at least 1 state bar association.5+ years of legal experience in real estate and project development, with ideally 2+ working in-house.Experience working with large-scale renewable energy projectsComfortable wearing many hats and working in a cross-functional environment.Willingness to be in-office in Austin 3 days per weekResponsibilities:Handle matters related to permitting, interconnection, project siting, regulations, and other associated issues.Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure legal compliance and effective risk management across departments such as development, finance, construction, market operations, and asset management, all in relation to the development and construction of battery storage projects.Draft, review, and negotiate various real estate documents necessary for the development and construction of battery energy storage projects, including options, purchase and sale agreements, leases, easements, subordination agreements, surface waivers, and other related documents.Prepare and negotiate interconnection agreements, permits, regulatory filings, and other contractual agreements tied to the development and construction of projects.Assist with title-related matters, including reviewing title documents, resolving title issues, negotiating title insurance policies, and handling related concerns.Evaluate risks throughout all stages of project development and communicate those risks to both internal and external stakeholders, while developing and implementing strategies for risk mitigation and management.Support finance activities such as acquisitions, divestitures, tax credit monetization, debt, and equity investments.Provide guidance on tax credit issues related to the development and construction of battery energy storage projects.Advise on and assist with various other legal matters as necessary.Oversee the selection and management of outside legal counsel and related billing processes.Negotiate and advise on standard, routine contracts.Perform other duties as assigned.
