Company DescriptionFounded in 1956, Camp Rockmont is an interdenominational Christian summer camp for boys on 580 acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains east of Asheville. Each summer, over 1,500 campers and 200 staff collaborate to provide an experience of adventure, fun, faith, and friendship. Camp Rockmont is committed to providing a safe, adventurous environment for campers, staff, and visitors.Role DescriptionThis is a Seasonal (April-May) on-site Farm Manager role located in Black Mountain, NC at Camp Rockmont for Boys. The Farm Manager serves as the Skill Head for the Homesteading skill during the summer camp season. The Farm Manager is responsible for cultivating his or her own set of crops to be used in the camp curriculum. They is responsible for developing, executing and implementing the curriculum as well as overseeing, supervising, and tending to the equipment needs of the Homestead program. This position reports to the Director. Primary ResponsibilitiesManage the Farm and Homesteading area: Design and implement an organic farm using sustainable and regenerative agriculture practices. Establish and maintain organic gardens that include fruits, berries, vegetables, herbs, and ornamental plants. Manage the maintenance of and upkeep of farm property, equipment and tools.Work with the Director to determine the best use of the produce and supplies produced by the Farm, potentially: A) Contribute food to the Camp kitchen for use and service. B) Donate to a local, community based, non-profit (e.g. Bounty & Soul) C) Share with staff and neighbors of the Camp community.Serve as the Skill Head for Homesteading: Design and implement a curriculum for a Homestead program suitable for children ages 7-17 that utilizes all aspects of the farm. Work with the Director and Staffind Director to recruit, hire, train and manage summer staff and farm assistants/intern. Important Characteristics for the Position:An organic producer's mentality; taking pride in producing food using traditional and modern methods that fit with the themes of Camp programming.An educator's mentality; taking pride in teaching children and others about organic agriculture.Strong work ethic; a willingness to jump in and help when/where necessary regardless of task to ensure a high-quality experience for campersOrganizational skills; the ability to implement and document a plan and its resultsCommunication skills; the ability to connect and stay connected with othersRequirements and Preferred Qualifications:Must be able to physically lift 50 lbs regularly and physically maintain the crops and farm equipment.3-5 years of organic farm management experience is preferred.Experience teaching children desired.Associates degree required. Bachelor's or higher degree preferred - Education or similar field desired.Willingness to work untraditional schedules when necessary.Ability to work constructively as part of a teamAbility to complete general repairs on a timely basisBackground checks are requiredPay is comensurate with experience.
