Position: Senior Project Engineer - Civil (CIP)Salary Range: $121k - $163k DOQBackgroundHoch Consulting is currently seeking a highly motivated and innovative Senior Project Engineer to join our team. Key duties include project management, drafting, permit support, design support for various capital improvement projects including but limited to parks, trails, streets, storm drains, signals, pump stations, pipelines, vertical structures, client interaction, preparation of specification & cost estimates, staff and client coordination, marketing and business development, and construction management and inspection support. The successful candidate must be self-motivated and ambitious, possessing excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communications skills that will allow for the candidate to engage in a variety of projects and to collaborate with employees, clients, and project partners at all levels. Typical Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to this position.Project ManagementCoordinate with clients, project stakeholders, consultants, contractors, and various regulatory agencies.Collect data required to assist with the preparation of cost estimates, schedules, reports, RFPs, SOW's, and other project documentation; provide recommendations and prepare documents in support of project goals.Research codes, guidance, policies, procedures, processes, criteria and Local, State and Federal laws and regulations and provide sound technical recommendations.Perform field investigations, review as-builts, and determine existing conditions; document and report findings and observations to include data collected.Review technical reports to ensure compliance with project goals.Prepare staff reports, bid documents, presentations, and other administrative documentation in support of the projects.Provide QA/QC of design documents prepared for projects.Manage project subconsultants including coordination, monitoring budget and cost, manage billings, etc.Manage consultants working with Agencies on behalf of the AgencyServe as a Contracted Project Manager for various agencies including water districts, cities, and other local agencies.Engineering & DesignPrepare engineering analyses and calculations. Update analyses and calculations throughout the project progression.Develop contract drawings. Development may include drafting and/or design using AutoCAD and/or Microstation.Prepare contract specifications applicable to the client's preferences and project needs.Prepare exhibits to convey engineering and design principles to clients, managers, and the public. Develop reports to convey engineering and design concepts and philosophies.Perform special projects, as needed.Construction Management & InspectionAct as the "information hub" to ensure continuity and coordination of work.Responsible for reviewing Request for Information (RFI) and submittals.Prepare and execute potential change orders including time extensions. Maintain critical project logs (submittal, change order, etc.)Inspect all work to assure compliance with plans and specifications.Develop progress reports.May supervise staff, including establishing and communicating performance expectations, providing positive and constructive feedback, and conducting on-the-job training of project engineers and interns.Develop and manage project schedule and other project controls.QualificationsBachelor's OR master's degree in civil, environmental, or mechanical engineering with 10+ years of civil engineering experience and a current California Professional Engineer license. Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage tasks for multiple technically complex projects simultaneously utilizing local and remotely located personnel with specialized skills. Experience with planning, design, and/or technical analysis with a variety of CIP projects - including but not limited to storm drains, traffic engineering, streets, parks, buildings, sewer/water pipelines, and pump stations - is highly desired. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to prepare project reports, summarize engineering and model analyses in concise understandable language, and present information to various internal and external stakeholder groups is desired. Experience working as a project manager for a public agency within California is highly desired. The ability to effectively work with a multitude of personalities is also desired.
