Working under minimal supervision, the incumbent provides general and technical support to the EOPS/CARE & CalWORKs programs; receives, processes, and verifies applications for these programs, assist students and staff with all matters related to student eligibility and application; and performs other related duties as required.DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSThe EOPS/CARE & CalWORKs Technician class is distinguished from other classes in that incumbent is expected to have a full knowledge of federal and state regulations and guidelines related to the EOPS/CARE & CalWORKs programs. In addition, the EOPS/CARE & CalWORKs Technician ensures compliance with program requirements by verifying and documenting applicants' cumbents in this position support student learning outcomes and institutional effectiveness by ensuring state and federal compliance are met and encouraging student success through the verification process.ABOUT THE COLLEGEWhere You Will WorkServing all of San Luis Obispo County, Cuesta College has provided comprehensive associate degree offerings, certificates, and community programs to the region since 1964. Information about benefits can be found at Functions & QualificationsESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS• Participate in program outreach activities to recruit students to participate;• Promote completion of the EOPS/CARE & CalWORKs' program application, and answer specific questions regarding application completion;• Assist students with admissions and registration procedures, other program applications, financial aid applications (CCPG, Chafee, FAFSA and Dream Act application), general and program specific orientations;• Assist students in obtaining vouchers and stipends through outside agencies including but not limited to Department of Social Services for books, course materials, and fees;• Process all EOPS/CARE & CalWORKs program applications and student documents, and request/receive verification documents from the Department of Social Services and other outside agencies;• Evaluate EOPS/CARE & CalWORKs program applications, determine preliminary student eligibility, and forward to Supervisor for final determination;• Coordinate the dissemination of program book services in conjunction with the college bookstore;• Review and record EOPS/CARE Book Grant purchases, digital reimbursement applications and collect data of EOPS/CARE students receiving services;• Obtain, maintain, and update records of program participants;• Manages the program book and materials lending program through the Lending Library by determining student eligibility, tracking resources, monitoring material needs, and keep track of returned materials in collaboration with the Cuesta Library;• Maintain program documentation to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations and guidelines related to EOPS/CARE & CalWORKs programs;• Act as the EOPS/CARE & CalWORKs programs Banner Functional Lead;• Maintain EOPS/CARE & CalWORKs website, online orientation, and other electronic communication tools;• Support the verification of MIS and other data;• Generate and update program forms, case notes, contact records, and other student tracking data;• Participate in IPPR Process; and• Perform other related duties as required.QUALIFICATIONSEducation:Required• Graduation from high school or equivalent.Preferred• Associate's degree.Experience:Required• Three years' experience with programs similar to the EOPS/CARE & CalWORKs Center programs; educational agency experience preferred;• Education may be substituted for experience on the basis of one year of education for two years of experience.Knowledge of:• Office management techniques, record keeping, and organizational skills;• Filing systems, database maintenance, and word processing;• Written communications;• Processes, procedures, and requirements of the college's EOPS, CARE and CalWORKs programs;• Current technologies, personal computer, and associated office software such as word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, online meeting tools, and/or database software;• Correct usage of English, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary; and• District policies and procedures.Ability to:• Communicate effectively;• Understand, interpret, and apply laws, regulations, policies, guidelines and procedures;• Investigate and research problems, devise solutions, and present recommendations;• Compile and maintain accurate and complete records;• Operate a word processor, computer terminal and file scanner;• Work in dependently with minimal supervision;• Understand and carry out oral and written directions;• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties; and• Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.Physical ability to:• Read and comprehend printed matter and text and data on computer monitors;• Communicate intelligibly and effectively via speech, telephone, written correspondence, and/or email;• Sit or stand for extended periods of time;• Lift and/or carry (25) pounds; and• Exert manual dexterity sufficient for keyboard and other office equipment operation.License and Certificates (must be continuously current):Required• Valid driver's license and eligible to obtain California driver's license upon hire.Additional InformationREQUIRED DOCUMENTS TO APPLY Candidates will be required to submit ALL of the required documents below when applying for this position.
