Key ResponsibilitiesCollaborate with project teams to create design documents, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials with minimal supervision.Conduct engineering tasks such as relay burden, load flow, and short circuit calculations, applying appropriate software for ground grid design, relay coordination, and transformer sizing.Review project schedules, working closely with project engineers to ensure timely delivery.Apply engineering standards, including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI, to design processes and documentation.Supervise and coordinate project activities with project engineers, customers, and other stakeholders as needed.Perform site visits for hands-on knowledge of substation construction and to gain additional training.Take responsibility for the quality, accuracy, and completeness of design work.Identify and communicate project challenges and potential solutions to project leadership.Travel occasionally for on-site training and meetings, and for project needs (up to 10% travel).Other duties as assigned to support the success of projects and the department.Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited university.At least 3 years of substation engineering design experience (7+ years for senior positions).Strong understanding of electrical relays, metering, and high-voltage substation design.Knowledge of electrical schematics, control systems, and relay coordination.Understanding of AC/DC fundamentals, three-phase power systems, and symmetrical components.Proficiency in using engineering software for design and analysis (e.g., load flow, short circuit studies).Familiarity with industry standards (NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, ANSI).Strong communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.Ability to travel overnight for assignments, as needed.Preferred QualificationsLicensed Professional Engineer (PE) or the ability to obtain licensure within one year of hire.Experience with substation design at voltages of 138kV or higher.Relay coordination experience is a plus.Compensation and BenefitsWe offer a competitive compensation package, including:Life and disability insuranceMedical, dental, and vision coverage401(k) plan with immediate vestingPaid time off and more!
