Intellectual Property Consulting (IPC), a boutique intellectual property law firm in New Orleans, Louisiana, is looking for a hard-working intellectual property paralegal. The preferred candidate will have a strong knowledge and understanding of domestic and foreign trademark and patent processes in order to coordinate and assist with US and foreign trademark registration and patent prosecution efforts. We will consider candidates that do not have specific trademark and patent experience, but have relevant experience that demonstrates the candidate's ability to perform the required job duties. Corporate paralegals, tax paralegals, bankruptcy paralegals are likely to have skills relevant to this position. We are not seeking a litigation paralegal, but will consider experience of that nature. If you are smart, detailed, organized and have extraordinary ability to prioritize tasks and communicate, we will train you on trademark and patent matters.Job duties include:Managing the firm's U.S. and foreign patent and trademark portfolios, including the use of the firm's intellectual property docketing software to assist attorneys with monitoring and managing USPTO deadlinesPrepare and file trademark and patent materials with the United States Patent and Trademark Office and the United States Copyright Office, including but not limited to: applications, office action responses, extensions of time, statements of use, affidavits, renewals, assignments and other documentsCommunicate extensively with clients regarding routine phases of trademark and patent prosecution and maintenance mattersWork with and correspond with foreign associates in connection with prosecution and maintenance of trademark and patent mattersAssist with trademark and patent infringement and clearance investigationsWork with the firm's vendors to order and conduct trademark and patent searchesWill occasionally provide litigation support to the firm's patent and trademark litigators, including gathering and organizing evidenceOrganize and manage electronic and paper filesRecord billable hours timely and accurately utilizing firm billing protocolsJob qualifications include:Excellent organizational and analytical skills; detail oriented; ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environmentHigh level communication skills for effective communication with internal colleagues and external contacts, including clients, co-counsel, foreign associates and vendorsMust be a problem solver, willing to work and think independently, accepting responsibility for producing work that is consistently complete, timely, effective and accurateBachelor's degree is preferred, but not requiredTwo (2) plus years paralegal experience is preferred, but not required.
