About the Company:We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic General Counsel to join our leadership team. This individual will oversee the legal function for our organization, with a focus on asset management and insurance operations. The ideal candidate will have deep experience navigating complex legal and regulatory issues within the financial services sector, and will play a key role in supporting business growth, managing risk, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.About the Role:Legal Leadership: Serve as the chief legal officer of the organization, providing counsel to the executive team and senior management on a broad range of legal matters, including corporate governance, M&A transactions, regulatory compliance, and risk management.Asset Management & Insurance Compliance: Lead the legal function within the asset management and insurance arms of the business, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards. Provide legal guidance on regulatory issues related to asset management, investment strategies, insurance products, and capital markets.Corporate Governance & Risk Management: Oversee corporate governance practices, ensuring adherence to best practices in corporate compliance and ethical standards. Develop and implement risk management strategies to protect the organization's assets and minimize legal exposure.M&A and Strategic Transactions: Lead legal negotiations and manage the legal aspects of mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and other strategic business transactions, ensuring alignment with the organization's goals and risk tolerance.Contract Management: Oversee the negotiation, drafting, and execution of contracts and agreements, including investment management agreements, insurance policies, reinsurance contracts, and partnership agreements.Team Leadership & Development: Manage and mentor a team of legal professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance legal department. Provide guidance and support to internal stakeholders across various business units.External Relationships: Manage relationships with external legal counsel, regulators, and industry bodies, ensuring effective legal representation and compliance with regulatory requirements.Legal Risk Assessment & Mitigation: Proactively identify potential legal risks and develop strategies to mitigate those risks, ensuring the organization's activities comply with all relevant laws and regulations, including SEC regulations, insurance law, and financial services legislation.Qualifications:Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and a license to practice law.A minimum of 10-15 years of legal experience, with significant exposure to asset management and insurance sectors.Proven expertise in corporate law, regulatory compliance, and financial services, with a focus on navigating complex legal environments.Extensive experience managing M&A, investment transactions, and negotiating complex contracts.Deep understanding of insurance law, capital markets, and securities regulation.Exceptional leadership skills with experience managing and developing legal teams.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with senior executives, external stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.A proactive, strategic thinker with the ability to balance legal risks with business goals.Preferred Skills:Experience with private equity and financial services transactions.Familiarity with international regulations, particularly those impacting global insurance and asset management firms.Demonstrated ability to influence decision-making at the executive level.Pay range and compensation package:Pay range or salary or compensationEqual Opportunity Statement:Include a statement on commitment to diversity and inclusivity.
