Location: NYCRTO: 3 days / weekRELO: Will consider candidates relocating but financial assistance not providedJW Michaels & Co has engaged with a major e-commerce technology platform to help hire a Cybersecurity lawyer to lead their Cyber legal team. Reporting to the Chief Privacy Officer, this role will provide expert legal guidance on privacy and cybersecurity matters. This role drives strategy, compliance, and incident management across the client's enterprise and its brands globally, while maturing privacy and cybersecurity frameworks. Responsibilities include advising on vendor contracts, regulatory developments, and aligning policies to support business objectives.Description: This Cybersecurity (legal) role will be responsible for advising on cybersecurity and product vulnerability matters and provide legal guidance to Client's Cybersecurity and IT operations teams including:Privacy and Cybersecurity Legal Counsel: Provide expert advice on global privacy laws, cybersecurity regulations, and compliance strategies to align with business priorities. Support incident response, including regulatory notifications and stakeholder communications. Counsel on privacy and cybersecurity aspects of mergers and acquisitions, including due diligence and post-integration. Develop and oversee incident response policies and procedures.Regulatory and Program Development: Monitor and assess global regulatory developments to shape compliance strategies for U.S. and international data privacy, personal information, and cybersecurity standards. Coordinate multi-jurisdictional regulatory assessments with regional counsel. Lead the creation and maintenance of privacy notices, internal policies, incident playbooks, and other program materials.Contracts and Risk Management: Negotiate vendor and third-party contracts, ensuring strong data protection terms. Provide expertise on privacy-by-design, privacy impact assessments, and data protection reviews. Support compliance with public disclosure requirements, including SEC filings and other regulatory obligations.Leadership and Governance: Act as a trusted advisor to brand privacy leaders, procurement teams, marketing, and business stakeholders. Foster cross-functional collaboration to integrate privacy and cybersecurity considerations into business processes and technology initiatives. Partner with business leaders to align privacy and cybersecurity efforts with organizational objectives.REQUIRED Qualifications To set you up for success in this role from day one, Client requires candidates be a MATCH with the following qualifications:MUST be an actively practicing attorney with an active bar license in NY or eligible for admission within six (6) months of employment;MUST have demonstrable experience designing, developing and implementing cyber policy/programs/systems both for proactive cyber considerations and reactive (such as incident response);Deep knowledge of relevant global laws, regs, standards (such as GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, NIST, ISO 27001, etc)Juris Doctor degree (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited law schoolminimum 10+ PQE relevant experience, advising clients on cybersecurity and product vulnerability issues or supporting a technology or information security teamExperience working in an AmLaw 100 firm, top boutique law firm and/or major global corporate environment in a cyber attorney role .Strong preference for demonstrable experience as the lead cybersecurity lawyer for a major global corporation (or #2 at a company of sufficient size/scale/scope such as a Fortune 500 company)Extra CreditRelevant certifications (such as CIPP, CISSP, etc)technical background preferred but required;If interested, please apply with resume attached.Lawrence@ for questionsNOTE: Due to volume of interest, only candidates that are a MATCH for the required qualifications AND attach a CV will receive a response.
