Upwing Energy is searching for an experienced test engineer with expertise in developing and performing tests for electromechanical devices and/or turbomachinery. We are looking for "A-players."The test engineer is a member of a cross-functional team that will develop and operate complex electronic and electromechanical test beds for early engineering development of novel gas compressor systems and sub-components. This role is for a hands-on person, who pays attention to detail and has excellent communication skills.The test engineer will help design, build and operate these complex test beds; provide test program management through the development lifecycle; work with the engineering team to design test setups and procedures to meet objectives as well as interpret the resulting data; and keep a constant eye on improving operations and methods.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Gathers test requirements to ensure testing will validate designDesigns test stands and fixtures incorporating mechanical, fluid and electrical componentsSets up and operates data acquisition equipment to measure and record sensor data (pressure transducers, flow meters, thermocouples, accelerometers etc.)Writes high quality test plans, procedures and reportsGenerates P&IDs and electrical schematicsInterfaces with technicians to support test stands during build and operationManages and ensures the safe operation of the test areasHelps develop and follow guidelines for the accurate and efficient measurement and recording of test dataTroubleshoots prototype compressors and test setupsCoordinates groups to solve system problemsDisseminates test resultsProvides feedback to design engineers for validation or improvement considerations in the designMaintains and improves testing facility as requiredDesigns and builds testing infrastructure with future-proofing in mindSearches for and selects ancillary equipment based on requirementsCollaborates with the team throughout the development of the product, including setting up, troubleshooting and testingIncreases sophistication, efficiency and effectiveness of LabVIEW-based User InterfaceWorks closely with cross-functional teams and various customers to understand the product and ensure it meets/exceeds customer performance and durability requirementsSkills, Experience, Education, and Abilities:B.S. in Mechanical EngineeringMinimum of 2 years of test/validation or industrial automation experience is requiredMinimum of 4 years of engineering experience is requiredExperience planning and executing test engineering operations in a fast-paced environmentFamiliarity with basic test instrumentation and low voltage wiring practicesTest strategy development experienceTest fixturing design experienceManufacturing or design verification test experiencePreferred skills includeNI LabVIEW or PLC ladder logic programming experienceNational Instruments hardware (PXI, cRIO, and/or cDAQ) experienceDesigning in CAD and generating drawingsPrevious experience with rotating machinery alignment and vibration monitoring and analysisPrevious experience with rotating electric machines and power electronics (high voltage and high current)Controls and process automation experienceIntangibles Sought:Must have the initiative to take ownership and drive resultsFundamental curiosity as to how things workDrive to constantly learn new things and apply them to your workDetermination to investigate and understand root causeAbility to both evaluate the big picture and dive into details when necessaryBe open to new ideas and input from others in a supportive, team environmentStrong interpersonal skills with the power of positive persuasionStrong organizational skillsIntegrity, commitment, and honestyReadiness to do whatever task is necessary to move the product/team/company forwardPhysical Demands/Work Environment:This position will be in the shop environment most of the time.
