Every employee takes a person-centered approach that exemplifies the ICARE values (Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence) through empathic communication and partnerships between all persons.Job DescriptionAssist in the review and RCA of Department of Health reportable incidents.Assist in the review and RCA of certain non-reportable incidents.Prepare case chronologies for RCAs and administrative reviews.Investigate reported incidents not requiring an RCA.Consult with the Director of Risk Management and Legal Counsel on medical/legal issues on a case-by-case basis.Follow up on guidelines and plans for quality improvement and patient safety.Daily review and investigation of Occurrence Reports.Enter Occurrence report investigation into Risk Management OR database, the VOICE.Confer with hospital departments for follow up on Occurrence reports.Comprehensive review and assessment of medical records.Assist in the development and implementation of special projects and programs that address Risk Management and related patient care issues, as identified by the AED of Risk Management.Follow up on recommendations, corrective action plans and measures of success resulting from RCA's, and occurrence report investigation.Liaison with Health Care professionals and HHC legal affairs regarding patient rights issues, including consents, health care surrogates, social services and other legal issues.Provide consultations to hospital staff and assist with resolution of patient issues.Interview healthcare professionals involved in matters under investigation.Keep abreast of recent literature on health care and risk management.Assist in the entry of information for Board Report statistics.Prepare case summaries for NYPORTS reported cases for the Board Report. Keep statistics on reviews and NYPORTS matters as needed.Investigate Patient allegations of abuse and neglect.Attend assigned hospital meetings, including review of committee information, as requested by the AED of Risk Management.Perform other functions as assigned by the Director of Risk Management.Attend weekly risk departmental meetings.Minimum QualificationsA Masters Degree in Art or Science with a specialization in Hospital Administration, Health Care Administration, Administrative Medicine or in Public Health when conferred for a program in hospital administration from an approved college or university; and, Four years of administrative experience and background at responsible management and administrative levels; or, An equivalent combination of training, educational background and experience in related fields and educational disciplines; and, Knowledge of fundamentals of hospital organization, administration and standards, regulations and laws applicable to hospital operations. Knowledge of principles of business and personnel administration, management functions and support service functions and ability to direct and supervise personnel.Department PreferencesKnowlege And SkillsExcellent writing and communication skills.Medical/legal background.Ability to review and succinctly summarize medical records.Ability to work as a part of a team.Ability to conduct neutral interviews of healthcare providers.Background in quality and/or risk management and/or utilization reviewData entry skills.Medical research skills.Education And ExperienceRegistered Nurse with current NYS license. Bachelor's degree an absolute requirement.Master's degree in nursing or graduate degree in a Health Care related field preferred, but not an absolute requirement; orJD from an accredited Law School with experience in Health Care or medical litigation.Minimum of 3 years administrative and managerial experience.Risk Management/case review/ litigation experience.
