The work location of this role is hybrid, meaning it will be performed both from home and from a LinkedIn office on select days, as determined by the business needs of the team.This role will be based in Sunnyvale, CA.About the Role:As a Senior Staff Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping this agentic future. You will be at the forefront of designing, building, and deploying state-of-the-art agentic models that push the boundaries of what's possible in a professional network. You will lead the development of in-house large language models (LLMs) that on-top-of but surpass leading open-source models like DeepSeek, Qwen, and LLaMA in key areas such as multi-step reasoning, instruction understanding, and the ability to interact with the environment and self-correct. You will build models that learn from and adapt to our massive datasets representing the professional world.You will provide technical leadership to a team of talented engineers, drive research directions, and collaborate closely with product and engineering teams to bring your innovations to life. You will tackle some of the most challenging problems in AI, working with massive datasets, complex user interactions, and the unique dynamics of the professional landscape.Basic Qualifications:2+ years of experience as a Lead Engineer, Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, or similar.5+ years of industry experience in AI or Machine Learning Engineering BA/BS Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experiencePreferred Qualifications:PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related field8+ years of overall industry/research experience, including extensive experience building and deploying large-scale machine learning models.Expert-level understanding of deep learning architectures, particularly Transformer models, and experience training and fine-tuning LLMs. Also, extensive experience developing models with advanced reasoning and planning capabilities, including techniques like Chain-of-Thought prompting, Tree of Thoughts, or similar approaches.Strong programming skills in Python and relevant deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch).Significant contributions to the field of AI, demonstrated through publications in top-tier conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, ACL) or impactful open-source projects.Extensive experience developing models with advanced reasoning and planning capabilities, including techniques like Chain-of-Thought prompting, Tree of Thoughts, or similar approaches.Proven ability to build models that accurately interpret and follow complex, nuanced instructions (zero-shot or few-shot). Also, experience developing models that can evaluate their own progress, identify errors, and adjust their approach accordingly. The pay range for this role is $191,000 - $315,000. Actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location. This may differ in other locations due to cost of labor considerations.The total compensation package for this position may also include annual performance bonus, stock, benefits and/or other applicable incentive compensation plans.
