Data Architect / Business/Data Analyst - Contract - Chicago - $60-$70 an hour We are seeking an experienced Data Architect to lead the integration and optimization of data systems for two merging departments. This role combines deep technical expertise with strong business acumen to ensure data is seamlessly aligned with organizational goals. The ideal candidate will have experience in data wrangling, dimensional modeling, gap analysis, and designing future-proof, scalable data architectures.You will work closely with key stakeholders to understand business needs, identify gaps in current data capabilities, and deliver innovative solutions that drive value and efficiency.Key Responsibilities:Data Architecture and Engineering:Design and implement scalable, future-proof data architectures to support the merging departments.Develop dimensional data models (e.g., star and snowflake schemas) for business intelligence and reporting.Ensure data structures and pipelines are optimized for efficient data access, analysis, and visualization.Build and maintain robust ETL pipelines to wrangle, clean, and integrate datasets from multiple sources.Business Analysis:Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand organizational needs, processes, and priorities.Conduct gap analysis to identify shortcomings in current data systems and processes.Translate business requirements into technical specifications, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.Provide actionable insights to support strategic decision-making and process improvement.Data Strategy and Governance:Define and enforce best practices for data governance, ensuring data quality, security, and compliance.Develop a long-term data strategy to future-proof systems and processes.Act as a bridge between technical teams and business stakeholders to ensure clear communication and alignment.Collaboration and Leadership:Work cross-functionally with data engineers, analysts, and business leaders to deliver integrated solutions.Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members or external consultants, as needed.Key Skills and Qualifications:Technical Expertise:Proven experience in designing and implementing dimensional data models (e.g., star and snowflake schemas).Strong proficiency in data wrangling and integration using tools like SQL, Python, or R.Experience with ETL processes and tools (e.g., Informatica, Talend, Apache Airflow).Familiarity with cloud platforms and data warehousing solutions (e.g., Snowflake, AWS, Azure, Google BigQuery).Strong understanding of data governance and compliance frameworks (e.g., GDPR).Business Acumen:Experience conducting gap analyses and aligning technical solutions with business objectives.Ability to understand complex business processes and translate them into data requirements.Strong communication skills to engage with non-technical stakeholders and present insights clearly.Eden Smith is an equal opportunities employer and does not discriminate on any grounds.
