The English Language Learner teacher will provide educational services to students in need, including instructing ELL courses across various campuses, and ensure school based ELL compliance. Duties and ResponsibilitiesDemonstrate excellent knowledge of english as a second language pedagogyEnsure accurate Home Language Survey completion for new to District studentsAdminister the required English proficiency screener (W-APT) and enter scores into SIM/IMPACTMaintain/create ESL files and records that meet ISBE audit requirementsComplete CPS OLCE requests for information associated with funding and program supportUpdate ESL profiles on SIM/IMPACTAdminister and manage the proctoring of the ACCESS testMaster content area and teach students in a clear and effective manner to drive academic achievementMake meticulous plans for units and lessons that address higher-order thinking skills, and use formative assessment to constantly adjust plans based on student needsDifferentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with varying academic strengths and weaknessesPerform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the principal or other school leaderDemonstrates effective classroom management skills and builds a classroom culture based on the 26 principles of A Disciplined LifeActively participates in professional development and works collaboratively with instructional leaders to improve instructional practicesBuilds meaningful and professional relationships with students and familiesPerforms other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the principal or other school leadershipPOSITION REQUIREMENTS:Education:Bachelor's Degree from accredited universityCurrent, valid Illinois Teacher Certificate Type 3; Type 4; Type 9 or Type 10 with ESL endorsementISBE approved alternative licensure (Type 29 with ISBE language proficiency test)Language Skills:Ability to read and write proficiently using the English languageAbility to interact and speak effectively in interpersonal situations and before groups of peopleExperience:Evidence of success working in an urban school environment is strongly preferred but not required.Physical DemandsMajority of work will be performed in a general office/school environment. Position requires availability for extended hours plus non-traditional hours required to perform job duties.
