Job SummaryThe Science Teacher is responsible for planning and teaching two or three sections of 8th/9th grade science. This role will also include identifying potential areas in need of academic reinforcement for individual students and communicating with advisors and families/caregivers about student progress. The role also includes an additional significant responsibility, such as coordinating or assisting with the athletic program, managing study hall proctors, or some combination thereof. Other responsibilities include advising a small group of students, managing weekly science tutors, and supporting the day-to-day operations of the school in a variety of ways, including chaperoning field trips.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:? Represent the core values of the Academy in all work performed on behalf of the Academy and in all activities related to the lives of students, graduates, and their families by demonstrating an excellent work ethic, personal integrity, confidentiality, professional maturity, and thoughtful ambassadorship.Science TeacherCreate lesson plans that cover introductory units on physical science and biology that are appropriate for 8th/9th graders.Teach two or three sections of the course during the Summer Session and academic year.Incorporate labs and other hands-on activities. Submit written grade reports.Be accessible for additional help outside of class hours.Manage volunteer science tutors to provide additional support for students who need it.AdvisoryMeet regularly with student advisees to discuss progress and concerns and to develop a sense of community.Communicate with advisees' parents/caregivers to convey information and address academic and social challenges.Support and communicate with advisees' mentors.OtherSupport students' high school applications by writing letters of recommendation.Participate in parent/caregiver conferences and attend school-wide events.Assist the Development team by participating in fundraising events and speaking to donors about Beacon.Another significant role will be assigned based on the needs of the school; possibilities include coordinating the co-curricular program, athletics, the study hall program, the student technology program, or some combination thereof.Complete other duties as assigned.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in science or related field; Master's preferredAt least two years of experience teaching middle or high school studentsAbility to teach and enhance the existing science curriculum and differentiate instruction as neededExcellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skillsMust demonstrate strong attention to detail and accuracyProficiency with the use of technology for teaching, including Google Classroom and SMART Board technologiesAbility to build relationships with families/caregivers, colleagues, and volunteers to support studentsPersonal warmth and empathyDemonstrated ability to embrace and share the mission of Beacon AcademyPhysical Demands:The ability to move freely about the Academy in order to be responsive to the needs of studentsWillingness and ability to drive passenger vans preferredEmployee Benefits:Generous paid time offInsurance coverage - Health, Vision, and DentalLife, short-term, and long-term disability insuranceRetirement plan with matching employer contribution after the first yearFlexible Spending Accounts - Health and Dependent CareConvenient location with parking and accessible to public transportationReports to: Director of the Academy YearFTE: 1.0Schedule: Typically Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 8:00 AM to 4:20 PM and Wednesdays,Fridays 8:00 AM to 3:20 PM, with occasional nights or weekend work as neededPosition Type: Full-time, exemptBenefits Eligible: YesSalary Range: $60,000-$80,000; commensurate with experienceStart Date: July 1, 2025To ApplyPlease send a cover letter and resume to: jobs@ with the subject line: "Science Teacher."
