Position Overview The Senior Cloud Engineer is a pivotal role within our technology team, responsible for the planning, implementation, and maintenance of complex systems that support our firm's operations. This individual will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that our systems are scalable, reliable, and secure. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of systems and cloud engineering principles, exceptional problem-solving skills, and the ability to lead and mentor junior engineers. Key Responsibilities System Design and Implementation: Develop and implement system architectures that meet business requirements and adhere to industry best practices. Ensure systems are scalable, resilient, and secure. System Implementation: Lead the deployment of new systems, ensuring seamless integration with existing infrastructure. Coordinate with other IT teams to minimize disruptions and maintain service continuity. System Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Monitor system performance, identify issues, and implement solutions in a timely manner. Conduct regular system audits and ensure compliance with security policies. Project Management: Oversee projects from inception to completion, including planning, resource allocation, risk management, and status reporting. Ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical specifications. Communicate effectively with team members, management, and external partners. Mentorship and Leadership: Provide guidance and support to junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment. Conduct training sessions and knowledge-sharing activities to promote continuous learning. Required Qualifications Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in systems engineering or related roles. A proven track record of successful system implementations and maintenance. Experience working in a team supporting >300 users at scale Technical Skills: Proficiency in system design, architecture, and administration. Experience managing and deploying solutions on the Azure cloud platform, including Entra ID, Windows virtual servers, Azure Virtual Desktop, Intune and Autopilot. Experience working with networking technologies including firewall and switches. A strong understanding of VLAN management and DNS. Experience managing and deploying Windows servers and workstations at scale in a multi-office and multi-tenant setup. Experience working with multiple vendors and outside partners to implement, support, and grow infrastructure and platforms. Knowledge and experience with a multi-level ticketing response system. This role will be responsible for handling tickets escalated from the Tier 2 Help Desk for assistance on infrastructure, platforms, and complex technical issues. Security: Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices. Experience with security frameworks and compliance standards (i.e. ISO 27001, NIST, GDPR) is a plus. Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills. Ability to diagnose complex issues and develop effective solutions. Project Management: Experience in managing large-scale projects, including planning, execution, and delivery. Familiarity with project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall) is a plus. Ability to travel: Visiting the firm's offices is required for project completion and break/fix support. Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Leadership: Demonstrated leadership abilities, with experience in mentoring and guiding junior team members. Preferred Qualifications Certifications: Relevant industry certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect) are highly desirable. Accounting Industry Experience: Experience with accounting industry applications like GoSystems Tax, GoFileRoom and Caseware a plus. Innovation: A track record of driving innovation and implementing cutting-edge technologies to improve system performance and efficiency. Interest in opportunities for future growth to team leader and manager a plus. Work Environment This position is with the Smith+Howard Technology Department which support the Smith+Howard Family of Companies across multiple offices supporting more than 500 staff in two countries and three time zones. The Technology Team includes the Help Desk, Infrastructure + Platforms, and Process + Development teams providing support, implementation, project management, and software development for the family of companies across our multiple business service lines.
