The first step is the development and mass-production of our own drilling rigs with automated controls and real-time data streams to increase safety, accuracy, and efficiency. Learn moreAutomating the RigWe are hiring an automation & controls engineer to design and optimize systems for our proprietary exploration drilling rigs, integrating sensors, actuators, and control algorithms. You will rapidly design, prototype, and iterate on hardware, collaborating closely with mechanical and robotics engineers, testing systems in the field daily or weekly.Note: You don't need mining or drilling experience to excel in this role.ResponsibilitiesSimulate and design control systems for autonomous drilling operations and supporting processes such as material handling, drill segment connection, and core sample retrievalDevelop a rugged instrumentation suite (pressure, force, position, temperature) for real-time data acquisition and control of deployed rigsDetermine actuation strategy and control algorithms for the rig and its supporting robotsPerform testing, troubleshooting, and validation of systems in lab and field environmentsCompetenciesComfortable building industrial control software (Beckhoff TwinCAT, Allen-Bradley) and programming languages such as ROS2, C++, and PythonStrong grasp of control algorithms (e.g. PID, LQR), signal conditioning, and sensor fusion to measure and control process variablesIndustrial communication standards (e.g., EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP) and wireless connectivity solutionsAbility to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment to rapidly prototype and deploy new systemsExperience with field testing and working in rugged environmentsIn this role, you willOwn a product vertical with the opportunity to build a team around yourself over timeWork directly with our internal and external customers to drive our roadmapGet to build alongside the best engineers and mining operators in the worldBe given autonomy and virtually unlimited room to growTravel all over the worldThis might be a good fit if youHave a bias to action, take pride in your work, and care more about getting to the right solution than being rightHave led critical projects or initiativesHave extensive experience shipping modern, full-stack hardwareAre product-minded and user-drivenAre excited to work in a fast-paced environment with high stakes and quick iteration cyclesAre a previous or future founder "” if you leave Durin to start a company, we'll do everything to support you, including investing in you and introducing you to Durin's investorsCan work from our Los Angeles headquarters (El Segundo)CompensationFor this role everyone, including the founder, is taking a salary of $120,000. We believe in investing every dollar back into the company to achieve our ambitious goals. While money isn't our driving motivator, we ensure you will be taken care of financially.We offer healthcare coverage (medical, dental, vision), all meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) are covered when you're at headquarters, and we can help provide housing close to the office.
