Immediate need for a talented Principal Database Engineer. This is a 12+ months contract opportunity with long-term potential and is located in Westlake, TX/ Boston, MA,/ Merrimack, NH (Onsite). Employee benefits include, but are not limited to, health insurance (medical, dental, vision), 401(k) plan, and paid sick leave (depending on work location).Key Responsibilities: Distributed SQL and NoSQL Databases: Extensive experience in CockroachDB and Oracle, with a preference for MongoDB knowledge.CockroachDB Administration: Hands-on experience with installation, configuration, upgrading, architecture, geo-partitioning, data replication, sharding, and consensus algorithms (Raft / Paxos).Schema Design and Performance Tuning: Expertise in schema design, performance optimization, query optimization, and both physical and logical backup solutions.Troubleshooting and Debugging: Strong debugging skills with the ability to identify and resolve complex issues.Scripting/Automation: Proficient in automation tools like bash, Python, and Ansible.DevOps and CI/CD: Experience with tools such as Udeploy, JIRA, Confluence, Jenkins, Git, Liquibase. Familiar with Datadog and ServiceNow integration.Cross-Functional Skills: Knowledge of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and DevOps practices.API Knowledge: Ability to work with REST APIs and read documentation to make API calls for data interactions.Containerization: Familiar with ECS and Docker.Collaboration: Strong ability to work across multiple teams in an organization.Key Requirements and Technology Experience:Key skills; 10+ Years of DBA Experience with a focus on Oracle and CockroachDB, as well as experience managing migrationsHands-on experience with installation, configuration, upgrading, architecture, geo-partitioning, data replication, sharding, and consensus algorithms (Raft / Paxos)Expertise in schema design, performance optimization, query optimization, and both physical and logical backup solutions.Cloud Solutions: Expertise in AWS (EC2, CFT, Route53, RDS), with experience in other cloud platforms like Azure or GCP.Additional Technologies: Experience with Redis, Elasticsearch, cloud data warehousing, and data lake solutions.Version Control & Build Tools: Proficient in GIT Stash, Maven.Infrastructure Experience: Familiarity with various types of hosted infrastructure and ability to adapt to changing environments.Communication Skills: Strong written and oral communication in English.10+ Years of DBA Experience with a focus on Oracle and CockroachDB, as well as experience managing migrations.AWS Solutions Architect Certification: Required for database engineering and cloud hosting.API and Infrastructure Alignment: Expertise in aligning APIs and infrastructure during the migration from MongoDB to CockroachDB.Database Integrity: Ensuring the alignment of schemas, tables, and processes during the migration, particularly in relation to Snowflake team coordination for schema and database consistency.Migration & Client Processes: Experience in rehydrations, schema creation, table creation, and alignment across systems.Our client is a leading Financial Industry, and we are currently interviewing to fill this and other similar contract positions.
