Job TitleResearch Assistant (Full-Time)Start Date Spring 2025Location Columbia University Medical Center Upper Manhattan, New York CityCompensation Salary TBD (includes benefits) 40 hours/week, with a two-year commitmentAbout UsProfessor Chin Hur's research team at Columbia University Medical Center conducts cutting-edge analyses using simulation models and advanced statistical/machine learning methods to guide clinical care and public health decisions, primarily focusing on the prevention and management of various cancers (e.g., stomach, colorectal, esophageal, pancreatic) and other medical conditions such as obesity.Dr. Hur also serves as a coordinating Principal Investigator and steering committee member for the National Cancer Institute's CISNET Modeling consortium (CISNET website).Lab WebsiteDr. Hur's Research GroupPosition OverviewWe seek a Research Assistant who will support Dr. Hur and his research team in a variety of clinical, epidemiological, and project coordination tasks. This position combines administrative/project management responsibilities with opportunities to contribute to meaningful research initiatives.Key Responsibilities Research & Data AnalysisAssist with cost-effectiveness analyses, clinical patient data mining, and development of predictive models.Abstract data from electronic health records, administer surveys/questionnaires, and manage data collection.Contribute to coding, statistics, and/or simulation modeling (if you have relevant skills or interest).Project CoordinationHelp coordinate study protocols, timelines, and day-to-day project logistics.Potentially assist with patient recruitment and communication.Organize and manage team meetings (schedule appointments, prepare agendas, take minutes, and follow up on action items).Maintain project-related documentation.Team Collaboration & CommunicationWork closely with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, statisticians, and researchers.Participate in team meetings, share updates, and help ensure project milestones are met.Ideal Candidate ProfileEducationA minimum of a bachelor's degree.CommitmentAble to commit to two years in a full-time role (starting Spring 2025).Interest in ResearchEager to explore medical and public health research, with a willingness to learn new analytical methods.Organizational SkillsExceptional resourcefulness, attention to detail, and ability to take initiative.TeamworkComfortable collaborating within a multidisciplinary environment.Literature SearchesCapable of performing focused literature reviews to support research objectives.Technical Skills (Preferred but not Required)Familiarity or experience with programming/statistics (e.g., R, Python) or other analytic tools.What We OfferMeaningful ImpactContribute to research that improves patient care and public health outcomes.Skill DevelopmentAcquire or refine programming and analytic skills, with potential for training in R, Python, and other methods.Collaborative EnvironmentEngage with a vibrant, supportive team in a collegial learning setting.Publication OpportunitiesPotential to contribute to and co-author scientific articles.Professional GrowthBuild your resume, develop key project management skills, and obtain letters of reference from Columbia Medical and Mailman School of Public Health faculty.Patient InteractionOpportunity for direct involvement in patient-facing research (e.g., recruitment, surveys).Application ProcessPlease email your CV (and any questions) to look forward to discussing how your background and interests align with our dynamic research team at Columbia University Medical Center!
