The qualified individual must be highly motivated with the skills to prioritize, perform, and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment.SOC is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to independently develop electrical designs for renovations and upgrades to existing buildings and power distribution systems at a federal site in Indian Head, Maryland. Indian Head is approximately 30 miles from Washington, DC.Job Description: Primarily requires development of requirements and technical review of design packages as well as occasional design workPrepare design packages (including structural and/or civil engineering calculations, design drawings, specifications, and cost estimates) for renovation projects such as roof replacements, building reconfigurations, additions, or adjustments due to a change in facility use or utilities such as HVAC upgrades or electrical modificationsConduct technical reviews of design packages created by others to assess compliance with applicable building codes, and regulations as well as end-user requirementsProvide technical input to proposal development for renovation projectsSupport design process from concept through delivery of completed design packagePrepare technical memoranda/reports that summarize information, such as requirements or the basis of designCollaborate and communicate effectively with other stakeholders internal to, and external to, the design team (e.g., engineering department, manufacturing department)Serve as a project manager and/or design manager on some assigned projectsPrepare fact sheets, structural analysis, investigative and observation reporting for facilities and facility components where areas of concern or identifiedComplete facility design services and support the review of designs for compliance with code and energetic manufacturing processes to help our client realize state-of-the-art facilities through construction and commissioningQualification, Education and Skills:Bachelor's degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or related fieldA minimum of 8 years experience required, 10+ years is preferredProfessional Engineer License is preferred, but not requiredAt least 5 years of experience with designing structural components for industrial or commercial buildingsExperience working with AutoCAD and/or SolidWorksAbility to prioritize, perform, and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environmentMust currently hold or be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret-level security clearance; Must be a U.S. citizen as this position is not eligible for Limited Access AuthorizationsEmployment Pre-requisitesThe following requirements must be met to be eligible for this position: successful completion of a background investigation, drug urinalysis.SOC, a Day & Zimmermann company, is an Equal Opportunity Employer, EOE AA M/F/Vet/Disability.
