Using a two-pronged business model, we create both materials as well as our leading the way with our own consumer goods to provide solutions for companies looking to incorporate sustainable, plant-based materials into their products.ROLE: Controller of FinanceLOCATION: Partially in-person at our Los Angeles OfficeREPORTING:to CEOThe Controller of Finance is responsible for overseeing all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, cost management, and internal controls, ensuring compliance with accounting standards while providing strategic insights to support operational efficiency and profitability within the manufacturing environment; this role requires strong analytical skills, expertise in inventory management, and the ability to collaborate with various departments to drive informed decision-making. Experience in a fast growing start-up is key for this role as well as a creative thinker with a can-do attitude who can wear many hats and get the job done.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Budgeting and Forecasting:Manage and keep up to date the company financial model.Develop comprehensive annual budgets in collaboration with department heads. Monitor actual performance against budget and forecast future financial trends. Make adjustments to budgets as needed based on market conditions and operational changes. Financial Reporting and Analysis:Work with our external finance team to prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements. Conduct in-depth financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and potential risks. Provide insightful reports to management regarding operational performance, cost drivers, and profitability. Cost Management:Work with CEO to set prices and margins to achieve goals.Analyze manufacturing costs, including direct materials, labor, and overhead, to identify areas for cost reduction. Implement cost control measures and monitor their effectiveness. Work closely with production teams to optimize production processes and minimize waste. Inventory Management:Oversee inventory accounting, ensuring accurate tracking of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods. Analyze inventory levels and turnover to optimize stock management. Identify and address potential inventory issues like obsolescence or stock shortages. Internal Controls:Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with accounting standards. Conduct regular internal control reviews and identify areas for improvement. Compliance and Audit Liaison:Ensure adherence to all applicable accounting regulations and tax requirements. Coordinate with external auditors during the audit process. Team Leadership:Lead the finance team, providing guidance on accounting practices and financial reporting. Create presentation materials for company decks showing our financial plansDevelop and maintain a high-performing finance team culture. Required Skills and Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance7+ Years of experienceExperience in a high-growth start-up, preferably with an exitCertified Public Accountant (CPA) preferredProven experience in financial management within a manufacturing environmentStrong analytical skills and ability to interpret financial dataExpertise in cost accounting and inventory managementExperience in creating presentation materials for external decks Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teamsProficiency in ERP systems and financial software
