We invest in multiple impact areas and systems that can impact economic mobility - such as early learning, K-12 education, college and career pathways, housing, behavioral health, and criminal justice - and we support leaders and organizations that focus on undoing systemic racism and the barriers it has created. In addition, we make grants in "Levers" that can improve outcomes across these issue areas and in the priority regions, such as improving data/tech infrastructure for data collection and reporting, achieving community impact through rigorous local Place Based Partnerships, and partnering with Government to invest in what works.The OpportunityBallmer Group (BG) seeks a proactive, collaborative, and detail-oriented Portfolio Manager (PM) to join our National Impact team. This group focuses on opportunities to strengthen impact across the country and partners with regional teams to advance key issues.The PM provides programmatic support to directors of Ballmer Group's national impact areas -- Black Family Economic Mobility, Early Childhood & Families, K-12 Education, and Career Success. They support the entire team on research, analysis, grants management and grants monitoring, and project management tasks, and collaborate in the development of program strategy and strategy presentations.An effective PM builds strong working relationships with internal partners, thoughtfully engages with potential grantees/partners, effectively prioritizes work and manages processes, and is willing to step in to assist the team. This is a collaborative, individual contributor role; it does not include direct people management.Key Priorities & ResponsibilitiesEnsure successful and timely completion of grants processing; monitor and prepare grants pipeline summary reports for the Executive Director, National Impact and NI Team.Support NI team grantmaking to ensure overall efficiency and progress on team goals and priorities.Project management for special projects, which might include project planning, oversight of execution, budget management, and production of deliverables.Communicate and provide information to grantees and grant applicants, as requested by team directors.Support existing internal workgroups with meeting planning, agenda preparation, execution of annual action plans, and other assigned tasks as needed.Conduct desktop research and trend analyses that inform grantmaking for existing and emerging strategies.Support team with translating complex information and data into easily consumable draft presentations for an executive audience.QualificationsRequired Experience, Skills, Education:A minimum of 5 years of direct, relevant experience.A Bachelor's degree or 3+ additional years of relevant experience.High emotional intelligence and sound judgment; capable of discerning when to escalate issues/concerns to Directors or leadership.Highly skilled using Microsoft Office products, including PowerPoint and Excel, to create effective presentations and communications materials.Strong data visualization and analytic capabilities, including interpretation of data, representation of trends and identification of patterns and themes across different topics/projects.Excellent communication skills: written, verbal, and presentation abilities.Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.Strong commitment to BG mission.Preferred Experience, Skills, Education:Intellectually curious self-starter, possessing both initiative and drive to exceed expectations of the role.Experience and ability to work with diverse constituencies and build strong working relationships internally and with partners.Possess relevant experience in business, philanthropy, public policy, or the nonprofit sector.Proven ability to monitor various projects and initiatives and report progress to senior leadership.Proven ability to work independently.Compensation & BenefitsThe starting cash compensation range for the Portfolio Manager, NI role in Bellevue, WA includes an annual base salary hiring range of $112,800 to $141,000, plus a 10% annual performance bonus target opportunity.The annual base salary maximum for the role is $169,100. We aim to hire new employees within the hiring range to allow future compensation growth.
