The belief in sustainability within our company's practices creates a focus on client success and building lasting partnerships that are important to our communities and our environment.Hanson Professional Services Inc. is seeking a candidate to fill a full-time Project Civil Engineer position in our Chicago Metropolitan region.Position ProfileThis position will primarily be responsible for the design of municipal infrastructure systems from concept to permitting, plan and specification production, construction contract administration, and stakeholder coordination. Interaction with private and governmental clients both in a private and public setting are expected. This role is envisioned to be the responsible charge (lead) project engineer on municipal infrastructure projects for a growing division in our regional office and has upward mobility pathways to Senior Engineer and Project Manager opportunities.A Day in the Life of an Engineer at HansonYour role will include the design of water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure. Specific skills will consist of designing water distribution and wastewater collection systems; performing calculations to size those systems; and designing pump stations for both potable water, wastewater and stormwater applications. These will include hydraulic calculations and modeling, pump sizing and station layout. In your role you will collaborate with Senior Technical staff and prepare calculations, quantity take-offs, and opinions of probable construction costs. Here's a snapshot of what you would do in this role:Design of:Water distribution systemsWastewater collection systemsStormwater collection systemsRegional stormwater detention / retention facilitiesRecord DrawingsOther municipal infrastructure systemsPlans and specification productionPermittingStakeholder Coordination (Utilities, Contractors, Property Owners, etc.)Preparation of technical reportsPreparation of administrative project deliverablesOther duties as assignedWhat We're Looking ForWe feel the following qualifications would set you up for success in this role:Technical Skills:Specific design experience in pressurized water distribution and/or gravity sewer wastewater/stormwater conveyance systems.A resume reflecting municipal roadway geometric design experience will distinguish the candidate from peers.Familiarity with Cook County DOTH and MWRD permitting and design criteria.Familiarity with IDOT Standard Specs and contract quantities.Proficiency with the following software programs is desirable: Excel, Autodesk and/or Bentley CAD/Design Platforms, WaterCAD, SewerCAD, XPSWMM and ArcGIS.Soft Skills:The candidate must be able to work as an effective team member and enjoy the autonomy of working independently on tasks when the situation requires; have the genuine desire to learn new skills, be self-motivated, and possess excellent interpersonal communication skills. A record of setting and achieving goals, and the ability to and appeal of mentoring junior staff will elevate this candidate.Education/Experience:A bachelor's degree in civil engineering is required.Strong, demonstrated technical skills in water/wastewater/stormwater systems design is required. Advanced degrees, roadway design, and project administration experience is desirable. Minimum of 3 years of experience is required; 5-10 years preferred. Illinois F.E. licensure is required; Illinois P.E. licensure, or ability to obtain within 12 months is preferred.Other:Candidate must be located in the Chicago Metropolitan area. Hybrid / Remote work opportunity is available.
